• 2010 Vanity Fair Oscars Party Look
Make-up by Joanna Schlip

“Jessica is such a joy to work with because of her gorgeous skin and bone structure,” said Schlip.

Editor’s Note: Make-up artist Joanna Schlip contracts with Physician’s Formula (at the time of this breakdown).

Skin Care
Schlip first used La Mer The Mist to hydrate and tone Simpson’s skin, then applied La Mer The Moisturizing Lotion using her fingers in upward, circular motions. Lips were prepped with La Mer The Lip Balm.

Foundation
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 5.5—Natural Beige. “I pump the product into my hands to warm it up first, then apply with a foundation brush, starting in the center of the face and blending outwards,” said Schlip.

Concealer
Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer in Beige, blended on the inner part of the eyes to the middle of the eyes only; pat in to the skin with the ring finger. “Mixing the concealer with a bit of foundation helps the concealer go on with smoother coverage,” said Schlip.

Powder
Physicians Formula Mineral Wear® Talc-Free Mineral Illuminating Duo SPF 16 in Natural/Beige. Schlip said, “I blended the two colors of powder and applied with a Shu Uemura powder puff.”

Bronzer
Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Pressed Shimmer Bronzer in Medium to Dark applied to all areas where sun naturally hits the face on the temples, cheekbones and jawline.

Blush
In order to give Simpson a “hint of rosy glow,” Schlip used Sue Devitt Silky Blush in Los Angeles, which she applied with a blush brush to the apples of the cheeks.

Eye Shadow
NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Cordura. The lighter tan shade was applied all over the eye lid and the darker shade was used in the outer corners “for a dramatic effect.”

Eye Liner
Schlip used Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Gel CreamLiner in Hazel Eyes along the upper lash line and NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Cordura (darker shade) smudged onto the lower lash line.

Brows
Giorgio Armani Eye Brow Defining Pencil in Beige to fill in and elongate brows as needed. “It is best to use short pencil strokes and then the other end of the pencil has a brush, which I use to blend brows and soften,” said Schlip

Mascara
Curled lashes with Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler and then applied two coats of Diorshow Unlimited Mascara in Black

False Lashes
“Jessica has very full lashes already, so I added individual lashes by M.A.C. with clear DUO lash glue [M.A.C. DUO Adhesive]. Individuals are best applied with tweezers,” said Schlip.

Lips
Lined lips with M.A.C. Lip Pencil in Subculture; M.A.C. Lipstick in Honeylove and Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss in Afterglow on top. “The combination of all these products makes the color last all night,” said Schlip.

Highlights / Countour
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Loose Colour Concentrates in Flicker used as a highlighter on top of Simpson’s cheekbones; Benefit Hoola under cheekbones and chin to contour

Additional Information
Red Carpet Kolour Body Glow in Tan for an “all-over tan glow.”

• Jessica’s Event Look

Sex-kitten du jour, Jessica Simpson, always steps out with an expertly made up face. Her makeup choices are pretty
consistent; golden skin, full lashes, and a pink pout. To get a look that is both sexy and demure, check out these
simple steps:

• STEP ONE
Prep the skin with a primer that has a hint of bronzer to help even out your skin tone. Use a creamy, lightweight concealer to cover any dark circles and any redness- around the nose, and on any blemishes. Make sure to blend well. If you are prone to shine, lightly dust a translucent loose powder over your forehead, nose, and chin with a large fluffy powder brush.

• STEP TWO
For the eyes, start with a shimmering rosy-taupe or gold shadow all over the lid and use an earthy, metallic bronze shade to line the upper lash line, blending up towards the crease. Smudge the bronze shade underneath the lower lash line as well.
Use a shimmering light taupe shadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with black mascara on top and
bottom lashes.

• STEP THREE
For Jessica’s rosy glow, use a shimmering bronzer or blush to contour your cheeks and a light pink highlighting powder on top of your cheekbones.

• STEP FOUR
Go for pink lips- for light skins choose a clear, cool based baby pink, or cool toned bright pink, darker skin tones can pull of berry and darker pinks with ease. Tip: Stroh suggests matching your lip color with your blush, to keep the pinks in the same color family.

• Jessica’s In This Skin Look
Makeup by Karan Mitchell

Skin Prep: Karan and Jessica are addicted to Shiseido skincare products. Jessica cleanses her skin with
The Skincare Gentle Cleansing Foam and moisturizes with The Skincare Day Essential Moisturizer Enriched SPF 10.
To keep her skin glowing, she applies The Skincare Purifying Mask weekly.

Foundation: Karan’s favorite foundation for Jessica’s skin is MAC Face and Body Foundation in a blend of colors N4 and C6.

Concealer: Shiseido The Makeup Concealer in No. 3

Powder: Bourjois Pastel Teint Dual-Purpose Pressed Powder in Abricote 67

Cheeks: For cream cheek color, Karan always uses Ben Nye Cream Rouge Wheel. She either uses the colors
individually or blends them together to create a multitude of natural colors. For powder blushes, she loves Bourjois
Pastel Blusher in Brun Cuivre 03, Brun D’Or 30 or Lilas D’Or 33.

Highlighting: Karan’s staple for highlighting Jessica’s skin and giving her that signature glow is the Ben Nye Fireworks Wheel. She also loves to brush on Bourjois Pastel Blusher in Lune D’Or 35.

Eye Shadows: Karan particularly likes the colors and quality of the Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow palettes. She also likes to use the Bourjois Pastel Blushers on Jessica’s eyes.

Eye Liners: Karan cannot live without her Styli-Style liners (available at Beauty Collection in Sherman Oaks, CA).
For Jessica, she always uses Milan and Tokyo.

Brows: Filled in with Styli-Style liner in Milan.

Lashes: L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Black.

Lips: She almost always preps Jessica’s lips with The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain in Rose Pink. Whether she uses it alone or under gloss or lipstick, she says it gives lips a naturally pigmented look. When she lines Jessica’s lips, she likes to stay with a neutral liner. Styli-Style’s Hollywood is perfect for Jessica’s natural lip color.
Some lipsticks she often uses are Bourjois’ Pour La Vie Lipsticks in Rose Perpetuel 25 and Beige Eternel 44 for natural looks and Rouge Connection Lipstick in Modele 12 for lots of drama. Her favorite glosses are Bourjois’ Ultra Gloss Lipstick in Miel Fantanas 94 and Beige Elastic 74.

Karan also added that Elizabeth Arden’s Eight-Hour Cream is a must from head to toe. She loves to dab it on the apples of Jessica’s cheeks or slick it across her eyelids for a fresh, dewy look.
