Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson’s walk down the aisle! Ashlee Simpson and her mom, Tina, dancing at the reception! A full view of the stunning reception tent!
In PEOPLE’s exclusive video, get an inside and intimate peek at Simpson’s “magical” July 5 wedding at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California.
At around the one-minute mark, Simpson’s father, Joe, introduces “Mr. and Mrs. Eric Johnson” to the 275 guests gathered. Then watch the happy newlyweds make their way down the aisle to the score from the 1998 film adaptation of Great Expectations.
The sweetest moment of all? Simpson kisses her husband’s hand as they share a loving glance.
For the reception, celebrity event planner Mindy Weiss worked with the bride to create a party space inspired by the Great Expectations movie as well. “She really wanted to have that feeling in the movie when they’re dancing,” says Weiss of the film featuring Gwyneth Paltrow and Ethan Hawke.
“There were so many flowers,” Weiss, who enlisted Mark’s Garden for the event, tells PEOPLE. “There was green amaranthus just hanging from branches that were over the tables. It looked like a beautiful ballroom in the middle of a forest.”
And from the looks of it, the dance floor was full with guests such as Donald Faison and Cacee Cobb tearing it up to the live band.
“We had a huge band,” says Simpson. “Everyone was having the time of their lives.”
For their romantic July 5 nuptials, Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson focused on one thing.
“It’s all about family for us,” Simpson tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story, in which the newlyweds talk about their favorite wedding memories for the first time – and share 27 exclusive photos.
So for the big day, the bride asked her mom, Tina, and her sister, Ashlee, to be her maids of honor. Johnson’s father, Stephen, stepped in as best man, while Ashlee’s fiancé, Evan Ross, was one of 11 groomsmen. (Simpson had 12 bridesmaids!)
Plus, the pair exchanged traditional vows during a nondenominational ceremony officiated by Simpson’s dad, Joe.
But it was their kids – 2-year-old flower girl Maxwell and 1-year-old ring bearer Ace – who stole the show.
“Before I walked out, I kept hearing all the applause, so my kids got standing ovations!” says the proud mom, 33.
By the time Simpson made her entrance, however, a hush fell over the 275 guests gathered at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California, and there were audible gasps as people caught a glimpse of the bride in her stunning Carolina Herrera wedding gown.
“I saw my gorgeous wife coming towards me and she was crying,” says Johnson, 34, who wore a custom charcoal gray John Varvatos tuxedo. “I think my heart was exploding a little bit.”
Simpson felt the same way throughout her wedding day: “It’s so surreal. This has been something we’ve wanted ever since we met.”

While many celebrities have attempted to parlay their A-list status into big bucks at the cash register, few have achieved the level of success that Jessica Simpson has. The pop star has helped to build a fashion and accessories empire that now spans 30 product categories and generates an estimated $1 billion in annual retail sales. “I never dreamt that this would happen to me in a million years,” admits Simpson on her foray into business. She credits her brand’s staying power to her ‘every woman’ appeal. “I feel like I can relate to the heart of every woman, no matter what size, what age…It’s been a learning lesson for me,” describes the 33 year old mother of two.
Yet Jessica Simpson is no stranger to skeptics and setbacks. “I have learned so many lessons when it comes to business, but I feel like the most empowering lesson that I have learned is failure is okay sometimes. And in that we grow, and we learn from that, and there is success around the corner,” says Simpson. That philosophy has served her well in dealing with the intense media scrutiny she’s faced since having been catapulted into the public eye in her early 20’s. “If anything, I feel like criticism humbles me and it makes me want to fight harder and just grow my business that much more,” she says. “And most of the people that do say negative things about me, they’re buying my shoes!”
In person, Jessica is a rare mix of determination and vulnerability. When asked what advice she would have given her younger self, she responds, “That it’s okay to cry and it’s okay to feel upset because…there’s always a way to get back up and make it happen again.” In fact, she credits one iconic songstress, Dolly Parton, with giving her the courage to continuously pick herself up and keep moving forward. “I was performing at the Kennedy Center to honor Dolly Parton, and I stood on stage, and I just stood there. And all of a sudden, I forgot how to sing, I forgot all the lyrics…and I just had to walk off the stage,” recalls Simpson of the highly publicized gaffe.
Following the flubbed performance, Parton offered encouragement to the younger star. “She said, ‘Honey, don’t worry about it. I wrote the song and I still can’t even get the lyrics right!’…She [Parton] really just empowered me to get back on stage, and she gave me the confidence that I needed in that moment,” shared Simpson.
I sat down with Simpson at the recent 2014 Forbes Women’s Summit where she discussed her billion-dollar empire, dealing with critics and the most important aspects of motherhood.
So they didn’t air Jessica talking about music, nothing other than the fact she was working on building a recording studio at her house to be able to make music there which is amazing! Oh and she will have a signature fragrance as well! The promo photo is breathtakingly beautiful. Well done Jess :)
Jessica Simpson‘s body confidence is back in a big way. The busy singer-turned-designer recently posed in a swimsuit for her new spring clothing line, and now she’s giving us two tickets to the gun show in the exclusive photo above. (Editors just made a pact to jump on whatever arm routine Simpson has been following. We’ll get back to you when we know more. Promise.)
Simpson’s sexy flexing photo was snapped on set of her new Weight Watchers commercial, for which she shows off her slimmed-down figure in a fitted black halter dress. “This body made two amazing little human beings. I love this body and what it’s capable of, no matter what size,” the mom to daughter Maxwell Drew, 21 months, and son Ace Knute, 7 months, says in the clip below. “But I’ll be honest, this version feels really good. My body, like my life, is a work in progress, but I’m getting there with Weight Watchers.”
Braving the chilly winter weather, Jessica Simpson left her New York City hotel and headed over to ABC Studios this morning (January 7).
The “Come On Over” songstress was in the house for an interview on “Good Morning America” to discuss staying happy and healthy in the New Year.
Simpson gushed about her youngest child, son Ace Knute- “He is my snugglebug. He’s huge. He’s six months but he is definitely wearing about 10-month clothing. Both of my kids are really tall which I’m gonna just be looking up to my entire family.”
Additionally, Jessica sang the praises of her daughter Maxwell, especially the way she’s accepted little Ace- “She is actually really good. She’s really good at taking care of him and helping me with the bottle and she has her baby dolls now. So we have all kinds of Cabbage Patch Kids and baby dolls. She changes diapers when I change diapers. She’s very helpful actually for only being 20 months.”
