Jessica Simpson drops extra pounds from second baby

1386705306000-XXX-131107-SWING-0506-RET

Jessica Simpson says “being pregnant for two years took a toll.”

She and fiancé Eric Johnson, a former NFL tight end, have two children, daughter Maxwell Drew Johnson, born May 1, 2012, and son Ace Knute Johnson, born June 30, 2013.

Her hefty weight gain during her first pregnancy was a hot topic in the tabloids. She says she was “constantly hungry” and had a “big appetite.”

Simpson, 33, says she didn’t pack on as many pounds with her second pregnancy. Still, she says, whenever she went to the doctor and stepped on the scales, “I would say, ‘Really, I could gain that much weight in one week?’ ”

Simpson is back to her pre-pregnancy weight before Ace but won’t say what it is.

“With Maxwell, I vegged out and laid around. I knew I didn’t have to watch what I was eating for the first time in my life. I kind of let loose, and I gained a lot,”

says the singer, actress, fashion designer and celebrity spokeswoman for Weight Watchers. Many remember her incredible figure in cutoff shorts and skimpy tops from her role as Daisy Duke in the 2005 movie Dukes of Hazzard.

Simpson says she lost more than 50 pounds on Weight Watchers after Maxwell was born. She’s 5-foot-3. Weight Watchers tells members that a healthy weight range for a person of her height is 113 to 141 pounds.

When she got pregnant for a second time, Simpson says she gained “what a normal pregnant woman would gain. I did put on a good amount with Ace,” but she won’t give the exact number.

The difference between the pregnancies was that she was already leading a “healthier lifestyle” during the second pregnancy, and she kept exercising, working with her personal trainer three times a week and going on “walks with Eric, my almost-husband. I tried to get 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day. I wasn’t trying to lose weight. I didn’t mind gaining weight.”

When the doctor gave her the OK after Ace was born, Simpson says, “I jumped back on Weight Watchers.”

She followed the company’s new Simple Start plan, a two-week program that doesn’t require people to count points. It provides a shopping list and menu of options for meals and snacks, as well as splurges such as a glass of wine or serving of ice cream.

The plan is based on studies that indicate that weight loss during the first month of dieting is very predictive of both short- and long-term weight-loss success, says Gary Foster, co-chief scientific officer for Weight Watchers. “We want to keep it simple and structured, because those two things drive success,” and if people experience success, they are more likely to stick with it, he says.

“I saw the results really quickly,” Simpson says, and then she went back to the PointsPlus program.

As far as preparing the family meals, Simpson says she has “somebody who comes in and helps out. I do want to make sure I stick with the right recipes, and obviously my schedule is a little jampacked.”

She describes herself as “an OK cook. I’m not one of the best. Eric is really good at chopping vegetables. I’m not good at chopping.”

She gradually increased her exercise and now is going full speed ahead on that.

One day recently, she walked 18,000 steps. “With both kids, I’m running up and down my stairs a million times. Kids can keep your metabolism going. Eric and I go on walks together. I try and walk about 4 miles a day consistently. It makes me feel better.”

Exercise helps her

“with all the hormones I have to deal with. Working out and being active overall makes me a happier person to be around. I let out so much more anxiety if I go out and walk and talk to Eric, who is basically my therapist on our walks.”

In addition to walking, Simpson’s physical activity includes doing somersaults in the backyard with Maxwell.

She is also working with personal trainer Harley Pasternak four days a week for 45 minutes. “It’s a lot of resistance training, lots of lunges and squats. There are bursts of cardio throughout the workout as well.”

Simpson is on a mission “to be the best version of myself and to feel great. I want to be a great mom and a great example to my kids.”

For years, there has been a lot of publicity about Simpson’s weight cycling. “People are going to talk about this no matter what. I might as well choose to live a healthy lifestyle.

“It does get old having people harping on how much you weigh or your body after pregnancy. I need to feel comfortable in my own skin. People are going to pick me apart no matter what I do. I’m always going to have critics out there who will make a story out of something.”

With two children a little over a year apart, Simpson says she and Eric “have our hands full. It’s so much fun. Every day we don’t know what’s going to happen. It’s fun to watch them interact. They definitely keep our lives busy but full of smiles. We laugh a lot.

“I’m the luckiest girl in the world to have Eric with me and by my side, and he’s an unbelievable dad.”

The couple is in the middle of wedding plans.

“I’ve been pulling all kinds of sketches for dresses and colors. It’s a good goal for me. It’s good for me to feel the best I’ve ever felt when I walk down the aisle.”

About having more children, she says, “I can’t even think about being pregnant again right now.” But, she adds, “I would never say never.”

Mindy Weiss Talks Upcoming 2014 Celebrity Weddings

mindyweiss

As 2013 winds down to a close, we eagerly look forward to the new year as several of our favorite celebs will be walking down the aisle and tying the knot soon.

So who better get the scoop from than celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss?

We toasted the town with the wedding guru at a recent décor event for Homegoods, and over light bites and drinks from Contemporary Catering, we couldn’t help but ask her for the scoop on a few of our favorite engaged couples.

While plenty of planning details are often left as a surprise until the big day, Mindy opened up and offered some terrific insight on what we can expect from her famous clients in the coming months.

Weiss is spearheading Jessica Simpson’s upcoming wedding to fiancé Eric Johnson, which she assures us will be a magnificent event.

“I’m really excited about it. The couples in 2014 are really strong about bringing their style into the wedding so people recognize whose wedding they’re at,” she told us of the planning process.

Weiss also shares that Pinterest is really changing the game for her career.

“Pinterest has played a huge part and really changed my career so I know what people want. It’s how they live, how they decorate their home. They want their wedding to be a reflection of their lives,” she added.

Additionally, Weiss has also signed on to plan Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici’s big day, which we know will be a special affair down to every last detail.

“Sean and Catherine have a very grown-up style right now. They want something sexy and romantic. They use certain words to kind of guide me with their vision,” she told us.

Ohh la la!

One other tidbit she told us?

The Bachelor wedding will definitely be an outdoor one.

We can’t wait to see these sweet ceremonies!

Home for the holidays!

Jessica Simpson and fiancé Eric Johnson returned to his hometown of Boston just a few days before Thanksgiving.

On Tuesday evening, the pair visited Zebra’s Bistro and Wine Bar in Medfield, Mass., just outside the city.

Simpson wore knee-high stiletto boots as she and Johnson enjoyed martinis at the restaurant, before tucking into a cheese plate, shrimp cocktail, cast iron pan-seared salmon and grilled bistecca.

As the meal came to an end, Chef Brendan Pelley brought the couple some of his tasty krispie treats.

Simpson added that it “was the perfect way to end a meal,” an onlooker tells PEOPLE.

After chatting with the chef, the source adds the couple was “very cool, very down to earth.”

A few days prior, Simpson and Johnson were spotted arriving at Boston’s Logan Airport with their children, Maxwell and Ace.

Jessica Simpson Feels “Confident” With Her New Body

rs_634x1024-130916090350-634-eric-johnson-jessica-simpson.ls.91613_copy

Jessica Simpson had shed 70 pounds of baby weight after giving birth to daughter Maxwell on May 1, 2012. Imagine her surprise when five months later, the Weight Watchers spokeswoman learned she was pregnant with baby No. 2. She and fiancé Eric Johnson welcomed son Ace via planned C-Section on June 30, and since then, the Southern superstar has been working hard to get back in her famous Daisy Dukes.

“When I had Maxwell I gained a lot of weight. More than I thought I would,” Simpson tells Tumblr’s MomFeeds blog. “And when it came time to try to take it off, it felt overwhelming. Stepping on the scale and seeing that number was really scary. With a toddler on the run and an infant to look after, I knew I needed a plan that’s simple and fits into my life along with the support that’s so important to my success. I know Weight Watchers works so I got on the plan again.”

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Simpson is earning a reported $4 million to endorse the program. The 33-year-old mom of two has been sticking to her plan and even recruited friends to join her group.

“Most of the women in my group have been my friends for years. Not only are we very close, but we’re also all going through some of the same things in our lives,” the singer shares. “It makes it hard to not be accountable for what you’re doing. And we spend so much time together that we’re helping each other make better choices, whether it’s choosing the menu for a business lunch or deciding where to go out for dinner on the weekend.”

Having a strong support system is crucial, according to Simpson. “We celebrate each other’s successes, talk about challenges and how to tackle them,” she says.

Known for her killer curves, the former Fashion Star mentor says it hurts to know that people are so focused on her figure. Even so, she feels more comfortable in her skin than she has in years.

“I’m a lot more confident this time around. With Maxwell, I didn’t think about the weight I was gaining, and the first time I stepped on a scale and looked at the number—I mean, that wasn’t a number I had ever even considered—I was faced with a pretty serious truth,” Simpson says. “But since I had already done Weight Watchers, I didn’t put on as much weight with Ace and I just know a lot more now.”

Simpson says her children sometimes crash meetings, but Johnson usually keeps them occupied elsewhere in the house. “Maxwell usually gets some attention from everyone, and Ace is always an attraction because he is still a baby,” she shares. “But they’re pretty good about giving us our time, and Eric’s a very hands-on dad. He’s not afraid to go two-on-one.”

Johnson, 34, is helpful in a multitude of ways.

“The great thing about Eric is that when he played football, he was always conscious of his weight and either gaining or losing, so he knows what it’s like and he’s helpful,” Simpson raves. “Plus, he loves me and always makes me feel beautiful, so he’s awesome.”

Simpson doesn’t consider herself a “perfect” parent, but she does enjoy helping fellow first-time moms like BFF CaCee Cobb.

“She’ll call me and say, ‘He won’t stop crying! What should I do?’ I love that I’m considered an expert!” she tells MomFeeds. “But it’s great to have the perspective from the first one already. You know, you’ve just got to keep calm and roll with things. And it helps to have a good sense of humor. I try to make her laugh.”

Jessica Simpson Returns to Weight Watchers

1380648381_164382306_jessica-simpson-467

Jessica Simpson is ready to get back in her Daisy Dukes!

The reality TV star and fashionista, who welcomed her second child in June, is officially working with Weight Watchers again to shed her baby weight. Andy Amill, who is the company’s VP of Media Sales, told MediaBistro in a new interview that the famous blonde has been welcomed back into the fold.

“We were thrilled to welcome Jessica back on the Weight Watchers program in August,” a company spokesperson confirms to omg!. “With a toddler on the run and an infant to look after, we know she needs a plan that’s simple and fits into her life along with the support that’s so important to moms with young children.”

The 33-year-old first inked a deal with the weight loss company — for a reported $4 million — in May 2012 after having her first child, daughter Maxwell, with fiancé Eric Johnson. And while she lost more than 40 pounds by September of that year, showing off her bod and sharing her diet secrets on “Katie,” she — oops! — became pregnant again and had to hit the brakes on her big bucks deal as a diet company spokesperson.

In December, Simpson appeared in a new Weight Watchers ad for the company in which she announced her second pregnancy. At the time, the company said she would stay on as a brand ambassador, but her dieting and point counting was put on hold until after she gave birth and her doctor gave her the green light.

Now Simpson is ready to slim down again, though she’s had to ease back into her post-baby exercise routine because she underwent a Caesarean section when she gave birth to Ace Knute on June 30.

The whole thing hasn’t been easy, thanks it part to critics. In an interview with Us Weekly following her son’s arrival, Simpson lashed out about comments that had been made about her pregnancy figure by those she described as “weight bullies.”

“I will never understand why people give pregnant women such a hard time,” she told the magazine. “We are creating a human life: I think we get every excuse in the world to eat a doughnut!”

As for her own body, “I am definitely one of those pregnant women who just gains a lot of weight,” she continued. “I have really big boobs, I have my curves and I just gain weight. I can’t help it. … It’s okay to gain weight, and it will always come off.”

We’re sure it will. And we expect she’ll tell us all about it as this reignited partnership with Weight Watchers kicks into high gear.

Jessica Simpson Debuts Baby Son Ace Knute

Boy, meet world! Almost two months to the day after welcoming her second child with fiance Eric Johnson, Jessica Simpson is still basking in the glow of new motherhood — and proudly showing off her adorable new son on the cover of Us Weekly!

Posing with baby boy Ace, daughter Maxwell, 15 months, and former NFL star Johnson at their home in Hidden Hills, Calif., on Aug. 12, the fashion mogul was positively radiant. In an exclusive interview for the Sept. 9 issue of the magazine, she opened up about becoming a second-time mom, dealing with “hurtful” weight bullies, and planning for the future of her family.

“With two kids, we have our hands full, but every day is a new adventure,” the 33-year-old singer, who gave birth to Ace via planned C-section on June 30, told Us. “It’s fun! I feel very at peace with being a mom.”

That said, she’s not eager to add to her brood anytime soon — if at all. Simpson found out she was pregnant with Ace less than six months after giving birth to Maxwell, so she’s looking forward to just settling in as a mom of two.

“Pregnancy is a lot. It was hard to do two so close together,” she confessed to Us. “I have this huge sense of accomplishment, and I feel in my heart that I’m done. But obviously, accidents do happen!”

Just five weeks after giving birth to son Ace, Life & Style can exclusively reveal that the fashion mogul will flaunt her slimmer post-baby body in photos for a new Weight Watchers campaign launching later this year.

“She has already lost a good amount of weight and looks great in the pictures!” a source tells Life & Style.

Casually dressed in layered T-shirts and wearing minimal makeup, the insider dishes,

“The shirts are snug on Jessica and she looks so thin in the photos. It’s quite remarkable for how recently she gave birth.”

And the company can’t wait to show off the Fashion Star mentor’s new look.

“Weight Watchers is so excited to the put the pics out there once the campaign officially launches,” the source adds. “Jessica bounced back a lot quicker after giving birth to Ace than she did after having [15-month-old daughter] Maxwell — and it’s clear after this photo shoot!”

As Life & Style reports in this week’s issue, the blonde bombshell has already lost 25 pounds thanks to a clean diet. Plus, unlike her first pregnancy, where she gained 70 pounds, the 33-year-old stayed slimmer this time around.

“She is eating well,” a pal of Jessica’s tells Life & Style. “It’s all down to portion control and cutting back on fried foods, plus restricting the amount of desserts she eats.”

This much is certain — the soon-to-be Mrs. Eric Johnson is so happy.

“Life couldn’t be better,” her friend shares. “Jess has it all right now.”

Ashlee: Bronx ‘Loves’ Being a Cousin

ashlee-simpson-240 While some moms dread seeing their little ones grow up, Ashlee Simpson is loving every moment.

Her son Bronx Mowgli, now 4½, is becoming a “smart, sweet and amazing” little boy, she says.

“He’s always funny,” Ashlee, 28, told PEOPLE at the launch of older sister Jessica Simpson‘s fall fashion line campaign at the Thompson LES Hotel in New York.

“He keeps you on your toes and he’s got great stories and a great imagination. When I was doing Chicago, he said he was making his own play about ninjas.”

Bronx (whose dad is Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz) has also taken on the role of doting cousin to Jessica’s children, Maxwell Drew, 14 months, and Ace Knute, 4 weeks.

“Oh he loves it. He’ll get it soon. Right now, he’s like ‘OK, Maxwell, come hang out with me! Let’s go to your play room,’ ” she explains. “We are always all together. We’re a close family.”

As for how Ashlee celebrated her newborn nephew’s arrival, she opted for a sentimental gift when he was born on June 30.

“There was this awesome thing that we made with Bronx,” she explained. “It was like cool, vintage shirts all made into a blanket, so all these things that represented his mom and dad. So we made that all into a blanket. Just cute stuff — things that represent Eric, things that represent Jessica, and you take the little vintage shirts and jerseys and make [them] into a blanket.”

Jessica “Counseling” Kim K On Losing Weight

gossip-alert

“Jess Helping Kim To Beat The Bulge,” reads the headline of a National Enquirer story that claims Kim Kardashian “turned” to Jessica Simpson for “advice early on in her pregnancy when she realized she was quickly packing on pounds.”

And now, says the supermarket tabloid, the two are “bonding over their new babies and post-pregnancy paunches.”

According to a so-called “source” for the magazine, “Kim reached out to Jessica toward the end of her first trimester, just as the weight was exploding,” adding, “Kim sympathized with Jess over all the nasty comments about how huge she got when she was pregnant with Maxie, and Kim thought Jess could help her avoid the same pitfalls.”

Nice totally fake quotes to bolster the tab’s phony premise.

Anyway, heaping on more BS, the Enquirer has its “source” say Kardashian and Simpson now chat “several times a day, sharing their tales of woe about their bodily aches and pains, hormonal surges and about how their men were adapting,” and even often “get together at each other’s homes.”

The magazine concludes with its supposed “source” saying Simpson has been “counseling Kim to ignore the negativity and just focus on her precious baby.”

There’s one slight problem with the Enquirer story: It’s entirely made up.

An impeccable source, who has helped Gossip Cop bust bogus Simpson stories in the Enquirer over and over and over again, tells us the two women have had absolutely “no contact” with each other.

Whoops.
