Inside Jessica Simpson’s Pre-Wedding Barbecue

jessica-simpson-600

Dig in! Jessica Simpson is kicking off her wedding weekend with a red, white and blue July 4 barbecue.

Simpson, 33, and fiancé Eric Johnson, 34, are hosting an outdoor Independence Day party for all their wedding guests at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California. The family-friendly affair comes the day after a small rehearsal dinner took place at the same location.

“We’re having a real Americana 4th of July party,” says celebrity event planner Mindy Weiss, who organized the stars-and-stripes-themed gathering. “It’s very down home. But it’s not a T-shirt and jeans Americana. Because Eric’s from Boston, it’s more khakis and white shirts. Very Kennedy!”

The pre-wedding party includes a cocktail hour with passed appetizers including lobster dogs and corn fritters plus a shellfish station.

Then everyone will line up for a Southern-inspired buffet where beef brisket, smoked barbecue baby back ribs, fried chicken and grilled shrimp will be served, along with side dishes such as mac and cheese, coleslaw and potato salad.

For dessert, guests can indulge at a pie bar that will offer slices of apple, pecan, key lime, peach and coconut cream pie. Or, for something cooler, Bomb Pops, Creamsicles and watermelon are other options.

Partygoers will also be able to enjoy a photo booth, games for the kids – including the couple’s daughter Maxwell, 2, and son Ace 12 months – and, of course, sparklers to mark the national holiday.

Overall, the festivities “have a carnival feel,” says Weiss.

“Jessica didn’t want her guests to miss out on the 4th of July,” she adds. “That’s who they are. Their No. 1 concern is for their guests coming all this way for the wedding.”

Jessica Indecisive on Wedding Venue With Fiance Eric

“I do?” More like “I don’t” know! Just weeks away from tying the knot with fiance Eric Johnson on July 4, Jessica Simpson is still indecisive on what wedding venue she wants to use, an insider exclusively reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly.

Simpson, 33, and the former NFL player, 34, have booked Santa Barbara’s 78-acre Bacara Resort & Spa “for now,” the insider tells Us. “But Jess keeps going back and forth on locales.”

The mom of Maxwell, 2, and Ace, 12 months, has, however, checked off other details from her wedding list. “The wedding will be very rustic-chic,” adds the source. Her guest list has also been finalized.

Engaged since 2010, Simpson and Johnson are sure to be counting down to their special day, and they aren’t the only ones. Earlier this month, Ashlee Simpson opened up about her older sister’s impending nuptials at the E3 Convention in L.A.

“My dress is really beautiful! It’s really, really stunning,” she told Us of her bridesmaid dress. She also revealed that the bride-to-be will not be wearing white.

“Jessica is having something unique made,” a source previously told Us. “It will be very different from the Vera Wang she wore to wed Nick Lachey.”

For more details on Jessica and Eric’s wedding — including who didn’t get an invite and what type of food will be served at the couple’s rehearsal dinner — pick up the new issue of Us Weekly, on stands Friday.

Jessica Looks Stunning at Friend’s Baby Shower

67

Get it, Jess! At her friend’s baby shower, Jessica Simpson showed off her own impressive weight loss in a stunning fuchsia sun dress.

The fashion designer’s long legs looked toned and muscular in sky-high nude stilettos. Simpson paired the look with a bold berry lip, and wore her hair down and straight.

The mother of two is currently celebrating her impressive weight loss with the help of Weight Watchers. She’s currently preparing for her wedding to fiance Eric Johnson, which will take place over the July 4 holiday weekend.

The couple opted not to have their nuptials overseas in Capri, Italy, choosing instead to have their wedding stateside near Los Angeles.

Jessica talks “Extravagant” Wedding, Relatable Fashion Line

61

It’s Jessica Simpson’s time to shine. Not only has her fashion, accessories, and home decor line become a billion-dollar business, but the former recording artist is also planning her long-overdue wedding to fiancé Eric Johnson.

Simpson spoke to host co-anchor Savannah Gutherie on The Today Show on Monday, May 19 to talk about her many successes and to hint at her summer nuptials.

“It will definitely be extravagant,” the mother of daughter Maxwell, 2, and son Ace, 10 months, teased. “I don’t do things small.”

Us Weekly has already learned that the couple switched locations from Capri, Italy to a local Los Angeles venue, which will likely give them more room for fancy touches.

But when it comes to her fashion line, Simpson wants her customers to know that anyone can wear her clothes.

“I have been every size there is, so I know how to dress every body type,” the Weight Watchers spokeswoman explained.

Simpson’s line currently covers women’s dresses, jeans, coats, handbags, shoes, luggage, and fragrance, and she is about to expand to home decor and babies.

Jessica’s $1 Billion Retail Empire: ‘I Understand Women’

steveforbesjess-e1400267064119

Fashion designers often claim to take inspiration from esoteric (and eye-roll-inducing) sources: a Spanish cave etching! A line from The Waste Land! A Polaroid taken on an exotic childhood vacation to Zanzibar!

Not Jessica Simpson. The pop star-turned-retail mogul finds her inspiration closer to home — and further down to earth.

“When I’m in approval or inspiration meetings, I think of what I want my Nana to wear, and what my 2-year-old daughter Maxwell would look adorable in,” said Simpson during a keynote Q&A at Thursday’s annual Forbes Power Women summit.

Forbes chairman and editor-in-chief Steve Forbes interviewed Simpson in front of an audience of women entrepreneurs, leaders, philanthropists and business executives. He described her career as “astonishing” in both breadth and longevity.

Indeed, the Jessica Simpson Collection comprises over 30 product categories, from her hugely popular shoe line to sunglasses and jewelry. Almost ten years in, the brand rakes in about $1 billion a year at retail.

(Simpson, for the record, takes home tens of millions of that annually, per Forbes’ calculations. Her earnings got a boost when she became a mom.)

“My business is the heart of who I am,” said Simpson. She went on explain how she has manages to outsell most runway designers several times over by understanding everyday women, the vast majority of whom are larger than a size 2 and may feel alienated by what they see in Vogue.

“I want to make every woman feel confident in what they’re wearing,” she said. “I do feel like we’re very fashion-forward, but we also listen to the consumer.”

Simpson believes American women relate to her weight fluctuations, which have been documented in detail by the tabloid press for years.

“I have been every size on the planet and I understand women,” she said. “And I just know how to dress them. I know there’s all different kinds. There’s life in the whole world beyond LA and New York. I understand Middle America and their mindset.”

She and her design and business teams know their markets, too. “We do know what our Macy’s customer likes,” she said. “We know what our Dillard’s customer buys. We know where women shop and what they’re buying.”

Simpson strives to make her collection not just aesthetically pleasing for the everyday shopper, but comfortable too.

She spoke of flight attendants stopping in the airplane aisle to tell her they only wear her footwear during long-haul trips. And young women tell her they love hitting the clubs in her heels.

“They know if they buy a Jessica Simpson shoe they can dance all night long,” she said.

Up next for the fashion mogul? A home goods line, and then a baby collection.

“People will be sleeping on my bedspreads!” she said, giddy at the prospect.

And as for kiddie clothing, she assured the audience that as a mom of two infants, she knows which kinds of onesies are the easiest to get on, and take off, a squirming baby.

Jessica: “I Am Blessed” To Have Done MTV’s Newlyweds

1400274998_jessica-simpson-lg

Jessica Simpson revealed to Entertainment Tonight she’d never do reality TV again, but is “blessed” to have done MTV’s Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica with then-husband Nick Lachey.

Talking with ET correspondent Lance Bass on Thursday, May 15, at Forbes’ Women’s Summit: Power Redefined in New York City, the fashion mogul talked about everything from working on new music to how she feels Newlyweds benefitted her career.

When asked if she’d ever do reality TV again, Simpson quipped: “I would absolutely not ever do reality TV again.” However, she added, “I am blessed that I did have that show. It allowed people to come into my life, and to know me as a person, and I owe a lot of my support — my fans came from that because people could relate to me, ” Jessica said of the show, which first premiered in August 2003.

Simpson and Lachey divorced in 2006, and now the blonde is gearing up for her second wedding this summer to fiance Eric Johnson. “I can’t wait to be a bride,” she told Bass. Simpson added it’ll be her daughter, Maxwell Drew, 2, who will steal the show, though.

“She likes to twirl around in her dress, so she’ll be the highlight for sure,” the singer said, laughing.

When it comes to music, the fashion designer is eager to get back to it. “I am setting up the sound in my studio [at home] right now,” she said, noting that she records at home because that’s where Maxwell and son Ace are.

“Well, my kids are there, and they inspire me. They’ll bring the music out of me,” Simpson said. But don’t expect a lullaby album. The “Sweetest Sin” singer laughed: “I think my voice is too loud to sing a nursery rhyme — I startle them!”

Jessica Simpson Set a Wedding Date With Fiance Eric Johnson

1400025000_488110687_-jessica-simpson-eric-johnson-467

Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson will be starting their marriage with a bang! The star, 33, and her fiance, 34, plan to tie the knot in a wedding over the July 4 weekend, a source reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly.

The couple—who have two kids together, daughter Maxwell, 2, and son Ace, 10 months—will say “I do” in Santa Barbara, Calif., the source says. (As previously reported by Us Weekly, they originally planned to wed in Capri, Italy, but decided it was “too much” to ask their friends to fly to Europe.)

Another interesting detail about their upcoming nuptials? Like Kaley Cuoco, Avril Lavigne, and Jessica Biel before her, Simpson isn’t wearing white. “Jessica is having something unique made,” the source shares. “It will be very different from the Vera Wang she wore to wed Nick Lachey [in 2002].”

The singer’s second wedding is a long time coming. She and former NFL pro Johnson first got engaged back in November 2010, just five months after they started dating. Wedding plans were put on hold, however, for the nearly back-to-back births of their children. But the time is finally right.

“We are very close to sending out our invites,” she told USA Today at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner earlier this month. “I’ve been very picky on how I want everything to look and feel. Eric’s family alone is almost 90 people, so it’ll definitely be a big event.”

Jessica: “Now I Know What My Life Is About”

rs_600x600-140404060425-600.Jessica-Simpson-Maxwell-JR-4414_copy

Jessica Simpson doesn’t just love spending every waking moment with daughter Maxwell and son Ace Knute—she falls asleep looking at their pictures, too!

But, really, can you blame her?! The fashion mogul and mama extraordinaire Instagrammed a few new snaps of her little ones Thursday night. “…now I know what my life is about,” she captioned one particularly precious shot of 9-month old Ace in a plaid onesie (!), adding,” I am so grateful.”

Jess, 33, also shared a snap of her mini-me, who turns 2 in May, all bundled up in a pile of blankets. According to mom’s caption, “Maxi can’t wait for RIO2″—the sequel to the 2011 animated film which hits theaters next Friday.

Ace might be a tad too young to see a movie in the theater, but once it hits DVD, the Simpson-Johnson household can watch together as part of their many family nights! Jessica and fiancé Eric Johnson are committed to raising happy, healthy children, but that doesn’t mean stressing out over every insignificant little thing.

“I think that we can easily put expectations on our children just by comparing them to other children,” Jessica told iVillage in 2012. “I obviously want to know that my daughter is healthy, that I’m doing the right thing in taking care of her and she’s getting all the nutrients that she needs.”

“But, I think that as parents, we do a lot of comparing and we don’t really focus on our child in their own individuality,” she explained. “Taking away all the comparisons is a really healthy way to parent—and not focus on the percentiles and all that kind of stuff.”

Wise words, J.Simp!

Jessica Shows Off Her Body in a White Dress

jessica-simpson-1-300x400

We’ve seen her in a swimsuit. We’ve seen her flexing her guns. And we’ve seen her get candid about shedding for the wedding. And now she’s working a winning combination of white dress, toned arms and a ready-for-summer physique in her latest Weight Watchers ad.

The star works her angles in a curve-skimming Alexander McQueen sheath in the behind-the-scenes photos above and the new ad below. Watch to see how she’s feeling about the meetings (and her overall weight loss progress). And though we’re pretty sure her wedding dress won’t look like the one she’s wearing here, it’s fun to get a sneak preview of Simpson in a white dress — after all, her wedding gown is her ultimate incentive to stay on track. “I can honestly say I’ve never been happier,” Simpson says — and it shows.

Jessica Simpson Signs With UTA

Jessica Simpson has signed with UTA for representation in all areas, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. The agency, which helped launch her career, will serve as her sole talent representation.

The move signals a comeback for the actress, singer, entrepreneur and philanthropist, who spent the last few years building a family with fiance Eric Johnson, a former NFL tight end. The couple has two children: daughter Maxwell, born in 2012; and son Ace, born last June.

In addition to starring in The Dukes of Hazzard movie adaptation, Simpson’s screen credits include the TV series Jessica Simpson: The Price of Beauty, Fashion Star and Newlyweds. Her single “I Wanna Love You Forever” reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and fueled the success of her double-platinum debut album, Sweet Kisses, which sold 4 million copies worldwide. Three of her seven studio albums have been certified gold, while 2003’s In This Skin went triple-platinum.

Simpson has enjoyed great success with The Jessica Simpson Collection, which launched in 2005 and has generated more than $750 million in annual revenue. The line includes more than 30 product categories, including footwear, clothing and jewelry.

Simpson continues to work with entertainment attorney Aaron Rosenberg at Myman Greenspan, licensing attorney Chuck Grimes, business manager David Levin and publicist Lauren Auslander at PMK*BNC.

Yay! Very exciting news! Thanks to Cocoa for sharing. Sorry I haven’t been updating, my apartment is still being renovated and I have internet issues. And it’s a big mess here so I hope you will excuse me. It shouldn’t take longer than 2 more weeks so I will pull through somehow!

Jessica: ‘When You See My Wedding Dress, You’ll Know’

Jessica Simpson has been working hard to lose weight after giving birth to son Ace last June. And the busy mom is definitely on the right track. (Seriously, have you seen her in this LBD?) But her get-fit plan has one specific goal in mind: Slipping into her wedding dress for her upcoming nuptials to fiancé Eric Johnson.

“The new year will definitely bring on the wedding bells, which is exciting … I think it’s about time,” she shares in the above video, which features outtakes from her new Weight Watchers ad. “Knowing that I have the wedding coming up is an incentive to stay on Weight Watchers, count my points and stay in the gym. I mean, when you see my dress, you’ll know.”

Simpson attributes her recent success to Weight Watchers’ Simple Start program, which allowed her to “completely re-focus and jump back on track” with her health and fitness routine.

“For me, losing weight was ‘hashtag get started,’ because every week for me was a new week and a new goal and I need to re-encourage myself to have that drive we all have when we first get started,” she says.

And when it comes to New Year’s resolutions, Simpson makes sure to start small: “I think if you do set resolutions for yourself, it shouldn’t be something grand. I think it should just be about getting started on something and see if you can stick with it.”

Aside from feeling amazing in her wedding dress, the star also wants to get back her body confidence this year. “I’m just trying to feel good in a pair of jeans and T-shirt,” she explains. “I can’t wait to be able to feel just comfortable in my skin and know that I’m back to the person I’ve been before. I know this time I’m going to be so much stronger and so much more empowered, because I really earned it and I really got here, and took the steps to get here.”

Watch the clip above for more on Simpson’s New Year’s slimdown plans.
