Did Simpson really talk trash about Minnillo to restaurant staff?

Nope.

A source close to the singer tells Gossip Cop that “she didn’t even see” the other couple and definitely “didn’t unload on her server.”

The star’s rep adds that the entire story is simply “not true.”

Let’s clear up a couple of things. Yes, Jessica Simpson was dating a married man. No, she’s not a homewrecker.

Her latest man, NFLer Eric Johnson, is finally divorced from his stylist wife of five years, Keri Johnson—but to his credit, they were separated before he hooked up with Simpson.

The divorce, citing the catch-all irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, became official last Thursday, E! News has confirmed. Johnson had filed his petition back in January.

Simpson and her new beau hooked up shortly after, and weren’t hiding their affections for one another when singer spent her 30th birthday her beau on the Italian island of Capri. They were spotted, kissing, hugging and holding hands, with Simpson going as far as straddling Johnson in public. (Guess that sexual napalm works both ways…)

By July he had met her entire family, and Ashlee Simpson signaled her approval.

“Jessica is happy, so I am happy,” Ashlee told E! News at the time.

And now everyone is presumably even happier with that pesky marriage out of the way.

If tabs fixated on facts with a quarter of the intensity they use to obsess over celebrity bodies, they could probably break some actual news.

“There’s a wonderful baby secret behind Jessica Simpson’s recent weight gain!” gushes the National Enquirer.

Oh, boy (or girl).

This ought to be good.

Sources tell the tabloid that Simpson is “sporting a happy glow” because she’s “actively trying to conceive” with new boyfriend Eric Johnson.

Wait, she has the “glow” of pregnancy… but might not actually be pregnant? We’re starting to get confused.

Simpson’s “friends” helpfully inform the Enquirer that she “may already be pregnant.”

Um, she “may” be pregnant?

“It looks like Jessica’s dream of having a baby is family is finally coming true,” says a “close friend.”

“She always said she wants to be settled down and pregnant by the time she was 30,” adds the source later. “Now, for the first time in a long time, she’s incredibly happy and in love.”

OK, so according to Enquirer logic, because Simpson is 30 years old and in love… she’s biologically required to be pregnant. And the tabloid acts as though she is, describing physical changes and the singer’s recent pattern of “eating for two.”

In fact, the Enquirer claims, during a recent dinner in New York, Simpson “further tipped her baby plans by not drinking any alcohol.”

The magazine should really stick to a blurry understanding of medicine, because its attempts to include actual details often go haywire.

A source close to Simpson tells Gossip Cop the star actually did happen to drink wine while dining in New York — and that there is no truth whatsoever to the Enquirer’s baby babbling.

Once again, the mag is “cribbing” from the wrong places.

“OMG! Is Jessica Simpson Pregnant? Do She & BF Eric Johnson Have A Secret?” asks HollywoodLife, before posing TWO more questions in rapid succession: “Could she actually be finally having the baby she’s always dreamed about? Is it time to offer Jessica Simpson a hefty round of congratulations?”

Wow, the site asks FOUR questions, and yet can’t get an answer correct.

After it’s quadruple query, HollywoodLife then reports, “The 30-year-old singer might be pregnant!”

Or…

She might NOT be pregnant, but more about that in a moment.

The site, which has caused us carpal tunnel syndrome because we’re constantly correcting them, notes, “Jess’ fuller figure was on display when she stepped out at The Sunset Towers in Los Angeles August 25… She and the former football player have been canoodling all over the globe lately, including her hot 30th birthday celebration in Italy – the perfect place for love AND love-making!”

Rather than compiling a list of romantic rendezvouses, perhaps HollywoodLife should devote a few minutes to, dare we say, fact-checking.

Gossip Cop expended the full 43 seconds to reach out to Simpson’s rep, and got the real answer to their string of silly questions.

A spokesperson for Simpson tells us HollywoodLife’s pregnancy report is “not true.”

Any questions? (Other than how HollywoodLife can be so consistently wrong?)

“Jess Tells Pals: ‘We’re Getting Married,’” claims a headline about Jessica Simpson and beau Eric Johnson in the new issue of Star.

A Simpson “pal” supposedly squeals to the mag that the singer “is telling all of her friends that she’s going to marry Eric.”

Already?

“She even bought herself an engagement ring,” alleges another so-called “friend.”

Wait– she bought herself an engagement ring?

But don’t expect to see Simpson sporting the “three-carat emerald cut diamond.” Conveniently, the tabloid explains that Simpson won’t wear the ring in public until Johnson actually proposes.

This is all very interesting, but a person who is actually a close friend of Simpson’s tells Gossip Cop that the story is “hysterical”… because it’s completely untrue.

“Jessica would never buy herself a ring or do anything like this article says,” explains the pal. “She is very happy with Eric but aside from that this story is ridiculous.”

It’s the natural order.

Waves pound the sand, birds sing in the trees, and HollywoodLife makes bizarre, mean-spirited claims it can’t back up.

“EXCLUSIVE! Not Only Is Tony Romo Totally Over You, Jessica Simpson — But He’s Ready To Marry His New GF!” shrieks the site.

Um… okay.

Judging by that headline, we’d guess that Romo really teed off on ex Simpson while gloating about imminent nuptials.

But this is HollywoodLife.

“This has got to hurt! Your ex-boyfriend is ready to say ‘I do’ to Candice Crawford, the girl that came just after you, Jessica!” prods the site.

Romo “is not only ready to marry his new girlfriend,” continues HollywoodLife, “but (even worse) says he hopes you find the same happiness one day. Dagger!”

That is not a typo.

Her ex-boyfriend hopes Jessica Simpson finds happiness, and HollywoodLife somehow made it seem evil.

Well, maybe it was the way Romo said it to HollywoodLife. Let’s take a look at his exact words.

“I’m happy for them,” Romo told the site, referring to Simpson and new beau Eric Johnson. “I don’t know much about it, but all I can say is, best of luck.”

Oooh… Dagger!! DAGGER!!

Romo is happy for Simpson and wishes her luck? Talk about pure venom!

He’s moved on, into a good relationship — and she’s done the same? Fight! Fight! Fight!

Sigh.

While Gossip Cop would love meet the HollywoodLife gang for a drink to discuss their great “exclusives,” we can’t. The petty, gratuitously mean juveniles who write the site’s stories are years away from being let into bars.

Singer-actress Jessica Simpson reportedly kept kissing her new boyfriend Eric Johnson during a dinner with her mother. Simpson was enjoying a lunch with her mother Tina and friends at Mexican restaurant Dos Caminos in Manhattan when she couldn’t keep her hands off her new boyfriend Johnson and kept kissing him during the meal, reports contactmusic.com.

“He always had a hand on her back, was touching her hair and kissing her head. They made out a few times,” said a fellow diner.

Simpson and the NFL football player only started dating last month.

“She looked super happy. And he was very attentive to her. They looked like they’ve been dating for ages,” said the diner.

Today’s “American Idol” rumor about the potential replacement for Simon Cowell has reality TV veteran and pop singer Jessica Simpson possibly stepping in to replace the cantankerous British judge who split after season nine.

According to Entertainment Weekly, an unnamed source close to the “Newlyweds” star said Simpson has had several meetings with “Idol” brass about possibly joining the show for the upcoming tenth season, which kicks off in January 2011. A representative for Simpson told MTV News she had no comment on the report.

“I’m not sure whether her people approached ‘Idol,’ or if it was the other way around,” according to the source, who noted that the “Dukes of Hazzard” star is just one of “dozens” of candidates who have reportedly been considered for the gig. Simpson joins a list that does not, however, include Elton John or Justin Timberlake, who were rumored to be in contention for the slot before their reps denied that either would be considering the spot on America’s #1 show. Meetings between “Idol” producers and John and Timberlake reportedly took place several months ago and were non-starters.

The spate of rumors comes on the heels of reports that former “Idol” producer Nigel Lythgoe is expected to return to the show for the upcoming season and that the “So You Think You Can Dance” judge/producer might be considering major changes to the remaining judging panel to give the show a boost. An “Idol” spokesperson has offered no comments on the Lythgoe, Timberlake and John rumors and could not be reached for reaction to the Simpson news at press time. Fox had no comment on the Simpson rumors, either.

The show’s producers have not announced when they would reveal the name of Cowell’s replacement, but the unnamed source told EW that “Idol” network Fox’s “dream scenario” would be to make a big announcement at its event at the 2010 Television Critics Association Press Tour on Monday (August 2). Among the other names reportedly in contention for the gig are singers Chris Isaak and Harry Connick Jr.

When Perez Hilton and Star magazine team up, it’s truly a thing of beauty.

The tabloid, which has published such ridiculous garbage about Jessica Simpson that she threatened to legally challenge them twice, now speculates that her new beau Eric Johnson is “using her” for money.

“Jessica is so starved for love, she just doesn’t see any of Eric’s faults,” claims a Star “insider.” His “faults,” apparently, are accompanying Simpson on a birthday vacation to Italy and sharing amenities.

Hilton can’t wait to pipe up, taking Star’s story and insisting Simpson is “usually unlucky in love!” After regurgitating the tab’s story about Johnson and Simpson’s fancy trip, the blogger buys into the notion that the former football player is “just using her.”

“Smart guy, ha!” chortles Hilton. “But will Jess catch on??”

But will Jess catch on?

Um, Hilton recently reported that Jack Nicholson was pursuing Simpson. He’s also tied her (wrongly) to Taylor Kitsch. And to Gerard Butler.

So maybe it’s the blogger who should “catch on” and realize he has no idea what he’s talking about with Simpson.

Maybe Simpson had Johnson come with her to Italy… because she likes him. As a source close to Simpson tells Gossip Cop, she’s a “savvy woman and knows who to trust and who not to, and so far Eric’s been a good guy.”

As usual, Star and Hilton have plopped themselves far from logic in order to brew scandal.

In addition to his stories being old and inaccurate, what’s really striking about Perez Hilton is his ability to get so much wrong with so few words.

Today, in a 75-word item about Jessica Simpson and Jeremy Renner, Perez claims that after their “fling,” Simpson “went over to see him and the visit ended up being pretty ‘awkward’ considering he had already moved on with another woman!”

Uh, Gossip Cop debunked that story a couple of days ago when a source close to Simpson assured us that alleged incident “never happened.”

But wait, it gets worse.

Perez then snipes that Simpson has moved on “with Eric Johnson — even if he is using her for the ca$$$h!”

Uh, we busted that rumor earlier today after a Simpson insider told us the “user” claims were false, and the actress/singer is a “savvy woman and knows who to trust and who not to, and so far Eric’s been a good guy.”
