Apparently, Us Weekly isn’t happy that Jessica Simpson seems to be in a nice relationship with beau Eric Johnson, so the mag is revisiting a so-called “dalliance” with Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner to stir up drama.

The pair’s supposed fling “ended pretty ugly,” claims Us Weekly. When Simpson “showed up at [Renner's] house one day,” according to a “source,” she came “face to face with another woman the actor was seeing.”

“It was awkward!” says the tab’s “insider,” flashing talent for stating the obvious.

And it probably would have been “awkward”… had it ever occurred.

A source close to Simpson says she “never showed up at [Renner's] house uninvited” and that the supposed incident with a mystery woman “never happened.”

Remember OK! magazine’s bizarre, completely baseless cover story this week claiming Jessica Simpson was about to become a mom? Well, the outlet is doubling down on its laughable “reporting.”

Today it suggests that an Italian jaunt with new boyfriend Eric Johnson offers new evidence Simpson might be expecting. Photographers caught the couple strolling in Capri, and Simpson’s “loose-fitting and roomy” outfit is “causing tongues to wag.”

This time, OK! can’t even muster the strength to comment specifically on Simpson’s appearance, instead speculating that her flowing caftan is “perhaps perfect for hiding a baby bump.”

To recap: in the span of two days, OK! has gone from announcing on its cover that Jessica Simpson’s baby is “confirmed” to observing lamely that she wore a loose dress.

It is true that pregnant women favor loose clothing.

It’s also true that stores will sell it to women who aren’t pregnant.

A rep for Simpson calls pregnancy talk “absurd.” Gossip Cop, meanwhile, will sadly leave our flowing gowns in the closet for the rest of the summer, for fear of “causing tongues to wag.”

According to a Showbiz Spy story, which spread like lice in a summer camp, Simpson “wants Katy Perry to help her reboot her pop career.”

A so-called “source close to Simpson” tells the site, “She’s hoping [Perry] might be able to work with her in some way and maybe even perform with her.”

Gossip Cop looked into whether the Southern sweetheart was going to collaborate with the “California Gurl” singer, and was simply told by Simpson’s rep, “No.”

Safe to also say Simpson and Perry won’t be collaborating with… Showbiz Spy.

OK! has gone baby crazy.

The same publication that once claimed Tom Cruise was set to pay Katie Holmes $75 million for a second child and (wrongly) insisted… and insisted … and insisted that Jennifer Aniston was set to become a mom is back with more baby blather.

According to OK!’s cover, a baby for Jessica Simpson has been “confirmed.” “Finally, A Baby For Jess” screams both the cover and the story’s headline. So what makes the tabloid’s crack team of obstetricians — consistently wrong in the past — convinced that Simpson is expecting?

The actress showed off a “fuller-figured look” at a “July 4″ Greenbrier Casino Club gala, observes the magazine, which can’t even get the event’s date right (it was July 2).

OK! cites a doctor (who hasn’t treated Simpson) as saying that her tummy and facial features are typical of a woman “in her 10th to 12th week of pregnancy.” Just in case that airtight argument falls through, OK! also points out that Simpson has a new boyfriend, Eric Johnson, whom a “source” calls “husband and father material.”

Plus, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz told Redbook last October that her big sister wants a baby.

Still unconvinced?

She’s working out and dieting regularly (which, as everyone knows, never happens unless the goal is pregnancy) and has “thrown herself into expanding her booming fashion empire” (which, as everyone knows, is what women do during the first trimester).

OK! explains that Simpson is doing more design work because it allows her to stay home. Apparently, it never occurs to the magazine that she just likes designing. Of course, it also never occurs to OK! that someone might actually check to see whether Simpson is expecting a baby.

Gossip Cop did — and she’s not. A rep for Simpson tells us the story is “absurd and not true at all.” The only thing OK!’s cover “confirmed” is the tab’s laughable track record.

“According to sources, Jack Nicholson has asked Jessica Simpson on a date!!” reads the lead of another poorly reported post by Perez Hilton.

Hilton claims Nicholson recently invited Simpson to have dinner at his home, but she declined and wondered, “How Jack got my number as we’ve never met.”

The bad blogger then editorializes, “We all know he likes the young ladies, but come on, this is getting ridiculous!”

Actually the phrase, “come on, this is getting ridiculous” could just as easily apply to Hilton and his reporting of this story.

Gossip Cop checked out this tale, and a source close to Simpson assured us it’s “not true at all.” Nicholson never invited her to his house for dinner.

The source added that Simpson laughed over Hilton’s completely fabricated story, which she thought was “hysterical.”

The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner is squashing a report that he recently made the moves on singer Jessica Simpson.

People.com reported that at a recent cocktail party for his movie at the L.A. home of Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary, Renner, 39, “spent the night hitting on Jessica like crazy. They were really flirting up a storm.”

But Renner – who brought his mom to the Oscars Sunday – told UsMagazine.com Sunday at the Governor’s Ball that he only met Simpson, 29, for “three minutes.”

“Her hair stylist [Ken Paves] did my mom’s hair so we were talking about that — and then all of a sudden we’re dating!” he told Us.

Asked if he’s seeing anyone, he told Us, “I’m single — and looking!”

But that doesn’t mean he’s a Hollywood player.

“I’m not a ladies man!” Renner told Us. “I’m a working man! That’s all.”

In a piece titled, “Jessica’s New Guy,” the Star claims Simpson’s “new guy” is actor Evan Hart, and that on February 19 the two were at the Hollywood hotspot Janes House, where one of the tabloid’s sources claimed they were “totally flirting.”

In addition to stating, “At one point, Evan had his arm around Jessica and then leaned over and kissed her,” the source noted, “Jessica and her date seemed to know each other pretty well.”

Yes, they do know each other pretty well.

When we reached out to a source close to Simpson, our insider was actually with the actress and Hart — and his fiance! Hart is engaged to Simpson’s makeup artist and friend Jeannia Robinette.

For a guy considered one of Hollywood’s biggest ladies’ men, John Mayer was certainly in gloomy spirits on Valentine’s Day, while on tour in Toronto to promote his album, Battle Studies. Though not surprising, as just four days earlier the singer was forced to issue a series of apologies expressing deep regret over an interview in the March issue of Playboy. But as bad as John may feel about the interview – where he discusses intimate details about his romances with exes Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston – his apologies are too little, too late.

When talking about Jess, John showed the ultimate disrespect by bragging about their bedroom antics. A friend of Jessica’s confirms that the sex was, indeed, pretty wild. “Jessica told me she and John had amazing sex,” the friend tells Life & Style. “She said they did things she had never even thought of.” In fact, during a 2007 getaway to Italy, a hotel insider tells Life & Style, “John and Jessica’s suite was a mess.”

While neither Jess nor Jen has publicly responded to the interview, behind closed doors, an insider says, Jessica is furious. “She feels like this came out of nowhere,” the insider tells Life & Style. “She had no idea he was going to be talking about her like this. It’s shocking. She thinks he’s lost his mind.” And while she’s staying quiet for the time being, she’ll soon have plenty of opportunities to strike back. “She’s going to be doing a lot of press for her new VH1 series, The Price of Beauty,” the insider says. “She knows she’ll be questioned about John again. Jessica Simpson may have been hurt by John Mayer’s shocking revelations about their sex life in the pages of Playboy magazine. But it was her father, Joe Simpson, who really wanted to teach the loose-lipped singer a lesson.

OK! has learned that after hearing that his daughter had been humiliated by her ex’s crude disclosures, he made a furious telephone call to the Battle Studies star.

“Joe took it upon himself to call John up directly for a ‘man to man’ discussion,” the source says. “Joe didn’t tell Jessica ahead of time because he knew she’d object.”

“The conversation was pretty one-sided,” the source explains. “Joe told John that he best not even think of uttering Jessica’s name again.”

So how did John — who described Jess as “sexual napalm” in the interview — take the call?

“John put up a feeble defense – he tried to reason with Joe that he was praising Jessica, not insulting her,” the source reveals. “But no father wants to hear from an ex-boyfriend about how hot his daughter is in bed — and Joe told John as much.”

“Joe told John to stay away from his family and man-up and apologize for his comments,” the source adds and apparently John did try and apologize.

“John did email Jessica and tell her he was sorry if the interview offended her,” the source explains. “But regardless of whether Jessica is willing to forgive and forget – Joe Simpson isn’t ready to make amends. He’s holding a massive grudge against John.”

“But there’s no reasoning with Jess’ dad,” adds the source. “Joe didn’t like John when Jess was dating him and likes him even less now.”

“John lacks a filter, and while that trait may accrue him press and amuse some people, it hasn’t endeared him to Joe Simpson!” says the source.
