        • Music star power wows arts school's career day
Students at Nashville School of the Arts didn't believe it when the rumors started swirling — was Jessica Simpson really performing at the Grammy in the Schools Career Day their school was hosting this year?

"I said I wasn't going to believe it until I physically saw her," said Bruno Jones, 17, who plays in the school's pop ensemble. "Then I did and I thought, 'Cool, they brought someone everyone could look up to.' I think it's neat how she's branching out doing country music."

Simpson was one of dozens of artists and Music Row executives who donated their time to participate in this year's 22nd annual Grammy Career Day this week. Co-sponsored by The Gibson Foundation, the day connects students who aspire to careers in the music industry with professionals who already have them.

Executives including veteran record and publishing executive Tracy Gershon-Fishell; artist agent Rod Essig from CAA; Renee Bell, executive vice president of A&R at Sony BMG; songwriter Brett James; and Fletcher Foster, senior vice president and general manager at Universal South, participated in panels that delved into industry topics and careers, covering everything from songwriting and vocal performance to show and music video production, and makeup and wardrobe design.

"Surrounding yourself with so many successful music business people helps keep your dreams alive," said Jones, who hopes to turn his multi-instrumental talent into a career.

"Days like this keep you motivated to become better," added Eli Bishop, 16, who aims to tour as a fiddle player in a country band. "This shows you what you can become."

It's student feedback like that that motivates professionals to participate in Grammy Career Day and keeps the program healthy, said Susan Stewart, regional director, Southern region/Nashville Chapter of The Recording Academy.

"It's the reason we believe in education," she said. "They are our farm team. They are going to be the studio heads and the agents and the managers of the future. It's great to hear (that the students) get as much out of it as they do."

Bob Wilson, the school's principal, is just grateful Grammy in the Schools selected his school for a return trip. Nashville School of the Arts also hosted career day on its campus last year, and Wilson said the impact on the 400 participating students is immeasurable.

"This is what these kids want to do," Wilson said. "They are so passionate. They are asking intelligent questions, and they are engaged. It's nice that entertainers come, but the business folks are just as important. My kids are sponges — they want to know what everything is, and everyone here is the same way. To have this level of professional talent in the building for the day is so special."

Stewart said much of the credit should go to Nashville's music community for taking such an interest in the Grammy Career Day program.

"It's inspiring to me to see how much people in our community want to give back," she said. "Jessica Simpson, (fellow performer) Crystal Shawanda, these are busy, important people who gave up their time to be with the students. And everyone had a great time today."

        • Jessica Simpson's Major Movie Star Goes Straight to DVD in America
Jessica Simpson's Major Movie Star may have opened No. 1 in Russia earlier this month (it didn't, I don't know why they keep saying that, it's not true!) - but it's not having as much success stateside.

The flick will be renamed Private Valentine: Blonde & Dangerous, and released only on DVD in America, a source confirms to Usmagazine.com. The movie - about a ditzy movie star who enlists in the army to earn money to pay her bills - is slated to hit stores Feb. 3.

The film will still premiere in Bulgaria next month, but, as Fox News points out, it will not have a release date in any country in which English is the primary language. Simpson's rep had no comment.

Simpson's last movie, Blonde Ambition, hit video store shelves after showing in just eight Texas theaters, and earning about $1,300.

        • HOT FOR TONY
The chaste Jessica Simpson of days past is long gone. The pop singer turned country crooner dishes about the heat between her and Tony Romo to Cosmopolitan: "[Tony and I] are definitely compatible in all areas." And marriage is still on her mind. "Any person who I'm gonna date for longer than six months, I definitely am investing in something long-term," she said about her boyfriend of two years. "If I get married again, then it will be the last time."

        • Jessica Simpson Bails on Date Night with Tony Romo
Jessica Simpson stood up two dates on Tuesday night – boyfriend Tony Romo and ... Elmo?

The singer – who designs clothing, shoes and handbags for Macy's – was supposed to fly from Nashville to New York Tuesday to celebrate the department store's 150th anniversary.

But driving rain caused serious flight delays, forcing Simpson to miss her scheduled Macy's gig singing "Happy Birthday" with Elmo. In fact the deparment store party – which included guests like Eva Mendes, Tommy Hilfiger and Martha Stewart – had nearly ended by the time Simpson finally arrived at 8:30 p.m.

"I'm so, so sorry!" she said as she rushed into Manhattan's Gotham Hall with her B.F.F. hairstylist Ken Paves. "[I wish] I could be God and control the weather."

But her injured NFL boyfriend, for one, was hoping she'd miss the event.

"Tony was just praying [that I wouldn't make it out]," Simpson admitted. "He had planned a really romantic date in case I didn't make it [to New York] tonight."

And while a date night was tempting, "I decided to come," she continued. "I'm like, 'Honey, I have to go.' "

So what make's the quarterback such a catch? "His heart!" she told PEOPLE.

        • Major Movie Star Russian news controversy
News broke today that Jessica's movie "Major Movie Star" made a debut on Russian box office. I was surprised so I asked my friend Andrey from Russia about that. He said that the movie is not shown in Russian cinemas and it also was not released on DVD over there as reported earlier (it was scheduled to be released on DVD in Russia on October 9th but wasn't). So it's confusing but since Andrey is a good friend who lives in Russia I'd rather believe him and not FoxNews Just wanted to share because this news is all over the internet today.

"It was such an honor to perform in Charlotte in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Building awareness for breast cancer is especially important to me because like many of you, my family has been touched by this disease. Both of my grandmothers faced breast cancer … one overcame the battle. Watching a loved one fight breast cancer showed me how important it is to get involved to help find a cure. I’ll be thinking pink and wearing my ribbon proudly. I hope you’ll join me in spreading the word about this site, PinkTogether.com, and encourage others to share their stories of strength and support. No one has to be alone in this fight.         • Jessica Simpson, Russia's Sweetheart
What ever happened to Jessica Simpson’s comedy, “Major Movie Star”? The “Private Benjamin” – like film has never opened here in the United States. But on October 9th, “Major Movie Star” debuted to top box office in… Russia.

Next up for a movie described by one of its participants as “maybe one of the worst films ever made”: a November premiere in Bulgaria. So far there’s no U.S. release date set. Nor is there one for any other country in which English is the primary language.

No fewer than 15 producers are listed on the credits of “Major Movie Star” including Jessica’s enterprising dad, Joe. The director was Steve Miner, whose credits are mostly from television.

While Jessica’s singing career transition into country star has gone pretty well so far, her movie credits seem to be getting worse rather than better. She’d be substantially better off, frankly, having a sitcom in which she can play herself.

        • Macy’s Turns 150!
Macy’s, the famous department store and retail industry pioneer beloved for its memorable events and immortalized in Miracle on 34th Street, turns 150 years old on October 28, 2008.

Among the sesquicentennial celebration activities, Macy’s will rename 34th Street in New York City – the address of its Herald Square flagship and world’s largest store – to R.H. Macy Way in honor of the brand’s founder. The ceremonial unveiling of the street sign will take place the morning of October 28. The temporary signs will be on view until November 15th.

That evening, Macy’s will host a fashion industry gala at Gotham Hall – just a block from its flagship store – with guests like Jessica Simpson, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Eva Mendes, Martha Stewart, Tommy Hilfiger, Clinton Kelly, Kenneth Cole, Todd English, Tyler Florence and Ming Tsai. The event will culminate with the reveal of a special birthday cake designed by Duff from Ace of Cakes followed by a fireworks finale off the roof of the retailer’s famous NYC landmark store. Also, in honor of the milestone, the Empire State Building (Macy’s neighbor on 34th Street) will be lit red.

“It’s amazing to consider that Macy’s was doing business before many great brands like General Electric, Coca Cola, and Ford Motor Company were even born,” said Terry J. Lundgren, Macy’s, Inc. chairman, president and chief executive officer. “Macy’s is responsible for American mainstays like the in-store Santa Claus and the Idaho baked potato as well as popularizing the one-price-system and bringing ready-to-wear to the masses. By turning 150, Macy’s joins the ranks of a very exclusive club of iconic brands. The longevity of the Macy's brand, its place in American culture, and its legacy of serving customers for five generations are extraordinary.”

Started by Nantucket-born R.H. Macy as a fancy dry goods store on 14th Street and Sixth Avenue, Macy's is the American dream realized. Today, the retailer has more than 800 stores across the country that are closely integrated with a thriving online business. Throughout its history, Macy's has paved roads in both fashion and retail, including introducing the one-price system, pioneering the concept of private brands for fashion goods, and being the first retailer to promote a woman to an executive position. The company also has impacted American pop culture with countless movie and TV show cameos and world-famous events like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade® and Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks®.

Last night Jessica performed at the State Fair of Texas. My aunt got us passes to go backstage. We got to go backstage and take pictures with her. She was nice and is so pretty !! I really liked her outfit too .. haha. But .. the best part of the night, was that we got to stand in a special section to watch the concert. And guess who also stood in that section? Yep - you got it, Tony !! It was so crazy when he walked through the crowd into the section. Everyone was so loud. Witten and Carpenter were also there with their wives. Tony's two roomates we there too. Let me just tell you .. Tony is so cute. And the way he smiles when Jessica talks about him and watches her sing is so sweet and cute !!         • When You Call Jessica Simpson, She Hears Hank
Call it a little musical self-affirmation. Jessica Simpson has her cell phone ringtone set to Hank Williams‘ “Hey Good Lookin’” right now. In fact, Life & Style Weekly magazine reports that that’s just one of the classic country tunes she’s rocking on her playlist. She may have a little Springsteen and Aerosmith in the mix, but it looks like the rest of her faves are some of country’s finest. She likes “Just to See You Smile” by Tim McGraw because “it actually does end up making me smile.” And “The Beautiful Lie” by Dolly Parton because “it just touches a certain place in my heart and reminds me of a certain someone.” Then there’s Willie Nelson’s “Bloody Mary Morning” because, she says, “I think we’ve all had those Bloody Mary mornings.” The last one on the list is about hatin’ on all those cheatin’ men out there: Shania Twain’s “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?”

        • Carrie Underwood: No Feud with Jessica Simpson
Carrie Underwood was in New York for the unveiling of her wax figure, but she also addressed Jessica Simpson, ex-boyfriends and Faith Hill at Madam Tussauds on Thursday.

Talking about the life-like replica of herself, Underwood said: "Honestly, it looks so good, it's almost kind of creepy looking at myself."

When asked by reporters about Simpson, who is dating Underwood's ex-boyfriend Tony Romo, the country star brushed off rumors of a feud.

"I met her once and she seemed really nice so I don't have a feud with anybody," said Underwood, who then commented on Simpson's recent crossover to country music.

"I think it's great that country music just seems to be opening their arms to people that want to be a part of it," she said. "They let me in when they didn't have to and they're doing the same thing for a lot of other people."

Underwood also spoke about her thoughts about ex-boyfriends and the role the media plays in her relationships.

"I generally have been friends with ex-boyfriends. Sometimes the whole media thing adds, well not sometimes, every time it adds a little obstacle," said the American Idol winner. "But before all this, everybody I had ever dated I was friends with."

In response to Hill's recent sexy photo shoot for the cover of Shape magazine, Underwood had nothing but praise for the 41-year-old country crooner.

"I think it's great!" she said. "Three kids, shoot. She's what we should all aspire to be because she's one person that's very, very confident in herself."

        • Jessica Simpson’s Universal Studios Stop
Enjoying a beautiful day in sunny southern California, was spotted out at Universal Studios in Hollywood yesterday (October 22). The “Come On Over” country chick looked cute and casual in a black cleavage-baring scoopneck top with slim fit jeans while toting an animal print handbag.

And it sounds like Jess will have more time with her boyfriend Tony Romo, as he’s not expected to return to regular season play until mid-November due to a finger injury.

He told press, “I don’t know when I’ll be back. I think definitely the idea now is to get healthy by that bye week.” Romo had hoped to be ready by this past weekend, but in the end it would have been a bad idea both for him and the team. “I wouldn’t have been able to play at any kind of level that would have helped this football team.”

[...] Pink swears her swipe at another famous blonde in the song is a love tap, not a slap. "Everyone thinks I'm trashing Jessica Simpson, but I'm actually not at all," she says. "I'm actually saying that she's cooler than me 'cause the waiter keeps taking my table and giving it to her." Note to Haylie Duff: You got off easy. Pink used Simpson because she worked better with the rhyming scheme, but alternate lyrics were "The pilot just took my private jet and gave it to Haylie Duff." "But that wasn't as cool, so it ended up being Jessica Simpson," Pink says.

        • Jessica Gushes Over Tony Romo at Concert
Jessica Simpson performed for thousands of fans at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas Friday night, but made sure one man in the crowd, her boyfriend Tony Romo, was the center of attention.

"Wow, I love Dallas," the singer told the crowd at the city's Fair Park, just east of downtown. "Obviously, I love Dallas because I grew up here and this is my home – you guys are my family – but I did find an amazing boyfriend here in Dallas!"

Cheers erupted for the Cowboys quarterback, who smiled, looking on from the sound area. Although some fans were clearly more interested in watching him watch Simpson perform – their backs were to the stage the entire time – Romo didn't seem to mind the attention. He grinned as Simpson, 28, called him "the calm of the storm in my life" and said, "Whatever I go through, I know I can depend on him to relax and bring me faith again."

Before singing "My Sunday," she added, "This is a song I wrote about a certain someone who throws that football really good." Simpson giggled and Romo, 28, beamed.

Nursing a broken pinky and chatting with Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, Romo bobbed his head with the music and was caught singing along to a few songs. When Simpson hit a powerful note during "Do You Know," he clapped in awe.

The admiration was mutual. "Sometimes, to find a love as big as that, you have to go through some heartbreak, some ugly ones and some butthead ones," Simpson told the crowd. "You go through that to really appreciate where you are in life right now."

Speaking of "buttheads," she said she wrote the song "Still Don't Stop Me" about an ex. "For some reason, I kept letting some guy come into my life. I couldn't understand it until I wrote this song and was like, 'Jessica, you need to wake up.'"

Midway through the show, Simpson left the stage as her band was introduced. Romo, protected by police, was also escorted backstage. He returned to the sound booth when she took the stage again.

        • Kind of off topic...
I've been reading all of your amazing concert reviews, looking at photos and I thought I'd share a few thoughts with you guys. On Wednesday October 15th Alicia Keys was having a concert here in Warsaw, Poland (that's where I live, if you didn't know yet ). I think she is an amazing artist so of course I had to go see her (plus such famous artists don't really come over here that much). It was simply amazing!

I was able to meet one of my friends there - Roxana (some of you may know her since she runs Alicia's biggest fansite Alicia-Keys.net). We've never met before and we've "known" each other only from the Internet. She's taught me so much about making websites and such as her website has been online even longer than SweetKisses.net.

So I was able to meet her there finally as we've had seats next to each other. Roxana was lucky to go to the meet & greet with miss Keys right before the concert and it was the first time she's ever seen her live too.

I was standing there and I was just so extremely happy for her, Polish girl like myself, to see her big dream coming true like that, you know what I mean! And I was thinking that hopefully this will happen to me sometime in the future as well - to be able to meet Jessica and see her live on stage - that would be a dream come true for me right there!!! I teared up thinking about all this. I'm hoping and praying that one day she will be able to be as happy for me as I was for her this past Wednesday

Just thought I'd share!

"Hey Joanna, my husband Robert (aka Jess' Wingman), baby boy (Lucas), and I went to the concert at the Texas State Fair last night. We got there like 5 minutes before the concert started. We were pretty far back, but still had a good view. When Jessica first came on stage she opened with These Boots. And man, she has not ever sounded better then what she does now. Her voice sounds like what she sounds like on her gospel album and let me say AMAZING!!!! She looked great as well. Her next song was Still Beautiful and OMG I think I cried through almost her whole concert!! She is back and strong!! OUR GIRL IS BACK! I do not remember the whole song order cause I was also taking care of my baby boy. He loved the concert as well. But I do remember she sang Sipping On History (which makes me think of my ex husband), Your My Sunday ( OMG!! makes me think of my hubby and it is such a great song), Remember That (another one the makes me think of my ex), Pray Out Loud, Who's Bed, Do You Know, Still Don't Stop Me, When I Loved You Like That, Man Enough, With You, and Come On Over (I hope I did not miss any.) But OMG!! All of it was amazing and she is so darn cute. It was amazing to be standing there at her concert with my husband who I met on The Jessica Simpson Message Board.

Anyhow attached are some pictures. They came out kind of dark and they are not the best, but I thought I would share. Thank you for doing such an amazing Job on sweetkisses.net and keeping us up to date. You are awesome!

Willie Nelson had a recording that he did to say that he had played on stage with her a few times and that it was too bad that he couldnt be there to sing with her... but told us to come on over and listen to her. She came out on stage and the crowd went nuts! She opened up with Boots, which was really good because she was shaking her thing lol and thanked all of us for coming out. Of course her being a Dallas native, we all loved her. She started to sing Still Beautiful and we heard people behind us freaking out so I turned around and Tony Romo and Jason Whitten showed up to watch her. She finished Still Beautiful and started singing You're My Sunday and talked about how you have to go through a few buttheads to get to a wonderful person. At the end of the song, she looked at Tony and said I love you. It was so cute! The next song she sang she told us before it started, that it was the saddest song on the record - Sippin on History. She also sang Whos Bed Have Your Boots Been Under, With You, Pray Out Loud, When I Loved You Like That, Remember That, and Do You Know. I think the best song she sang was You're My Sunday (she practically looked at Tony the whole time...was so cute) or Remember That (she has so much emotion in this song, beautifully sang). She has an amazing voice and I'm so glad I got to go watch her! Love your site, I'm so glad you take the time to put all of this stuff up so we can see what our girl Jess is up to. Thanks for all that you do!"

        • Fan review: Texas State Fair
"I live in Dallas.. just got back from the Jessica concert and yes, Romo was there. The crowd was going crazy for him! Jessica was AMAZING as usual.. she's one of the few singers who sings even better live, and looked gorge as always. She was her silly, bubbly self and left the stage saying she had to pee!

P.S. Love the site."

        • Fans get a glimpse of Tony Romo at Jessica Simpson's State Fair concert
Fans of Jessica Simpson who packed the area around Chevrolet Main Stage at the State Fair of Texas to see her perform Friday night got a special treat. Ms. Simpson's boyfriend, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, made a surprise appearance shortly before the concert started as police escorted him through the screaming crowd to the sound booth where he watched Ms. Simpson perform.

"We came here from Salt Lake City, and this is such a treat to see Tony, too," said Tyler Copier, who flew into Dallas on Friday. His best friend, Craig Berrett, beamed: "This is the best day of my life."

Some fans arrived as early as 1 p.m. to grab prime seats.

"We had to make sure we were right out on the front row," said Linsey Watson, a Dallas resident.

Adoration of Ms. Simpson was a family affair for some. Suzie Reese attended the concert with her daughter Christy Taylor and granddaughter Heather Taylor. All three sported Tony Romo jerseys.

"We're here because this is her home and this is our home," said Ms. Reese, a Dallas resident. "And ... [Jessica] is one of us. We want to make sure she knows she's loved."

Others didn't attend the concert by choice.

"My wife dragged me out here," said Charlie Ball of Fairview, who added that he does think Ms. Simpson is attractive.

For Fort Worth resident Patti Moller, the concert was one of several Simpson concerts she had attended over the years. She said she was eager to see Ms. Simpson's performance as a country artist.

"I think she made a good decision, frankly, because I think a lot of things in pop culture don't seem to have the same good feeling," Ms. Moller said of Ms. Simpson's crossover to country music.

        • Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo: Will he or won't he?
No, not an engagement. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is talking about playing with a fractured finger. Will that affect his chances of showing up for his girlfriend's State Fair show this weekend? Jessica Simpson will perform on Friday at 8:30 pm on the Chevrolet Main Stage. Will he or wont he--a question with multipronged answers and one both football aficionados and teenage girls want answered.

Dolly Parton dishes on her new album, writing for the musical '9-to-5' and her fondness for Jessica Simpson.

[...] You wrote songs for the new Jessica Simpson album. What was that like?
I wrote the title song, which is called Do You Know? and I sang a duet with her. I think her album is fantastic.

She's getting a lot of flak for crossing over from pop to country.
Oh, she gets a lot of flak if she wakes up in the morning, and I don't understand that. She's a very sweet, down-to-earth country girl — very much like myself. I'm compassionate toward her, and I think it's very unfair they give her such a bum rap.

        • Jessica Simpson to unveil new fragrance Saturday at NorthPark
Newbie country crooner and sometime fashion and shoe designer Jessica Simpson can add another occupation to her résumé. No, not Cowboys curse. Perfumer.

The bubbly blonde has teamed with Dior Parfums vet Alexis Dadier to create a sugary fragrance called Fancy. The notes in the blush pink perfume read like the ingredients of a mouthwatering dessert: pear, apricot nectar, toasted almonds and caramel, plus a flowery dash of gardenia and jasmine.

Smell for yourself on Saturday, when Ms. Simpson brings it home to Dillard's NorthPark from 2 to 4 p.m., where she'll sign autographs for fans who purchase $89 or more worth of Fancy products.

Fancy Jessica Simpson eau de parfum, $49 to $59, Dillard's.

Now that Dallas cowboy quarterback Tony Romo has a bit more free time, there's speculation/prayers/dreams that he'll make an appearance at girlfriend Jessica Simpson's State Fair performance this Friday.

He's out for three games with a fractured finger.

Ms. Simpson will perform at 8:30 pm on the Chevrolet Main Stage this Friday and hawk her perfume at NorthPark on Saturday. So that's two chances to catch a glimpse of her -- or her beau.

        • A Refreshing Place to Be
I just hung up on Jessica Simpson.

I've been on hold for more than 10 minutes, so I assume something's gone wrong with the call. Almost immediately I get an email from her publicist: "I was just about to connect you!" Turns out that the phone system at the hotel where Ms. Simpson is staying (presumably under a fake name) in Windsor, Ontario, is rather byzantine. So we start the whole process over again.

When I finally get her on the line, Simpson is cheerful and friendly. (Ironically, she seems more down-to-earth than some of the indie bands I've interviewed—less aloof, less self-serious.) And though she's often cast as the dumb blonde—"It's broadcast in 1080i. I totally don't know what that means, but I want it," she pouts, as Daisy Duke, in an ad for DirecTV—I'm sure she could name a newspaper if asked.

Simpson is in the midst of a tour for Do You Know, her first foray into music that is called country—even if the opening chords to "Come on Over" sound like Melissa Etheridge channeling Boston—and she's keeping busy. "Yesterday I was in three different states," she says. "Last week I was in 12."

Scene: Seems like a lot of people are "going country" these days. Where do you see yourself in all that?

JS: Honestly, people ask me this question a lot, and I don't ever give it much thought because I feel like I made a record that was very much a part of who I am, and I don't ever look at it like I'm crossing over—I made another record, and it happened to be country. I was writing with amazing songwriters in Nashville. I was shocked that it debuted No. 1 on the country charts. It's the very first No. 1 record of my career, and it goes to show that [country is] the natural voice in me. I feel like I should have been doing country music all along, but I don't know if I would have appreciated it the way I do now.

Scene: What makes a song a country song, to you?

JS: Sitting down to write a country song is more organic than writing a pop song. In my experience, the producers would come up with a beat and we would write to a beat, and where the melody is in that rhythm. [With a country song] I'll come in with song title or a couple lyrics jotted down, that I want to go through or face, or admit [laughs] or celebrate—and I come in with thoughts like that and we just start talking. And the writers that I'm writing with start playing the guitar and start humming melodies and I'll hum along with them. And the lyrics come so easy. If you don't write a song in an hour, you're not having a good day.

Scene: So you had fewer cooks in the kitchen, so to speak?

JS: Many. [In pop] I would be writing with many producers...it was more about the track and the production of it. The albums were scattered and confusing because people have different ways of producing. But working with Brett James and John Shanks—I worked with them a ton—working with them there was a consistent flow throughout the record. Everyone was on the same page, and it sounds like a complete album. I've never had that before, so it's a refreshing place to be.

Scene: Do you consider yourself more a singer or a songwriter?

JS: It doesn't matter to me. I've always been a singer—that's just what I was born doing. As far as writing goes, I've kept a journal since I was 11. I've always been writing, maybe not in song form, but....

Scene: People tend to take the title "songwriter" seriously in this town.

JS: As they should. I think it's amazing that on CMT after you see the video, they put the songwriter, because they're just as important to the song [as the performer]. I really respect the songwriters, especially the ones I've had a chance to sit down with and chat with. They all come from such a place of talent. You're kind of in awe sitting around them, and they're constantly inspired—and I think Nashville brings that out.

Scene: In a recent interview you said that you've eaten a lot of great food in Nashville. What are some of your favorite restaurants or things to eat?

JS: I love the food in Nashville. I love Radius10. I love those tater tots. I love that—they have a really good chicken and rice Chinese appetizer—but I'm a fan of the shrimp and grits. And then...what's the name? Mafiaoza's—I love that place. I don't really even remember the pizza, because all I was eating was the appetizers. It's definitely a place of fried appetizers. As you can tell, I like my food fried.

Scene: Aside from the food, what else do you enjoy about Nashville?

JS: The nightlife is a blast because you don't have to stay out too late. I think I'm getting old [laughs], and I'm not into going to clubs or whatever. I'd rather go see a band, you know, go to The Stage or Mercy Lounge.

Scene: Nicole Kidman recently told our paper that she likes living in Nashville ["The Simple Life," Sept. 25]. She says she can be more herself here. Has that been your experience?

JS: Yeah, definitely. In the four months I was living out there, I never had cameras flashing in my face, you know? Everybody was kind and very cordial and it was just—it felt like how life should be. Living in L.A. or traveling to New York...you have these vultures coming at you all the time, and just trying to get in on your personal life and trying to get in, you know, on things that really don't matter at the end of the day. And when you have the cameras in your face, it affects your perception of life, it affects your comfort zone, with who you are and where you're going, and it makes you make different decisions. I find that in Nashville, I feel I can definitely be more myself and make the choices I would make from the beginning.

Scene: Would you ever consider moving here?

JS: I'm definitely going to make all my records there. I think it's so beautiful. I'd love to have a house in Franklin. But right now I'm spending most of my time in Texas. It's football season, and my boyfriend [Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo] is on lockdown—no traveling.

        • Jessica Simpson’s Very First Interview From 1999 Revealed
Jessica Simpson gave her very first media interview to Popstar! Magazine back in March 1999 and we’ve got some juicy quotes from that interview, which took place almost a decade ago. Here’s what the pop-turned-country singer, now 28, had to say:

On when she realized she excelled at singing: “That happened when I was 12 years old. Um, I went to the finals for The Mickey Mouse Club along with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake and JC—a lot of the people who are out now—I went to the finals with them and we hung out for a week. We worked on our stuff together. And then when we went for the final audition, I totally froze because I watched everybody perform and when I got up to do it I froze, so…I didn’t make it! But that’s when I really knew that it was something that I wanted to do because I absolutely fell in love with it.”

On how the Mickey Mouse Club try-outs went: “We got in groups and we all had to go with an acting coach, a vocal coach and a dance choreographer and we were there for like a week and a half. We each worked on a monologue and a song and a dance. We all learned the same thing. I was actually in a group with Justin Timberlake! [laughs] Yeah, I know, it’s kinda weird! It’s so weird that all the Mickey Mouse Club people are coming out. I had absolutely no experience going in there. I walked in and I sang ‘Amazing Grace’ a cappella and like Justin had already won Star Search and Britney had been in Off-Broadway stuff and I was just a little minister’s kid walking in singing ‘Amazing Grace.’ It was intimidating, it was really intimidating.”

On trying to decide what her stage name would be: “Well, I’m goin’ by Jessica. I think I’m just goin’ by Jessica. I don’t think we’ve figured that out yet—it’s either Jessica or Jessica Simpson!”

On staying a virgin until marriage: “Definitely my favorite song on the album is the one that I wrote. It’s called ‘Heart of Innocence.’ And it’s about me saving myself for my husband. And it has a really cool story behind it. I hadn’t had a boyfriend in like a year and I was writing in my journal—’cuz I write in my journal all the time—and I was upset and I was praying and I was like, ‘God, I really need you to be my companion right now.’ I fell asleep when I was writing in my prayer journal and then I woke up in the middle of the night and God was like, ‘Write a letter to your husband,’ and I was like, ‘I’m not gonna write a letter to my husband!’ And I did, and that’s the song, that’s ‘Heart of Innocence.’”

On how the interview ended: “That was my first interview!”

        • Jessica Simpson Wants Six Kids
Jessica Simpson wants kids... six to be exact. The singer gushed to The Daily Telegraph about her dreams of having a big family with boyfriend Tony Romo.

On having children: "I'd love six kids running around, but I guess I’ll have to start pretty soon."

On her relationship with Tony Romo: "It's a beautiful relationship. He's everything I could dream of and I really love him. I'm proud to be his girlfriend. Even if things don't work out between Tony and me – though, knock on wood, I believe they will – I don't regret anything I've ever said. That's just how I love. I'm all in and I live one moment at a time... He's a strong man and that's what makes him so sexy to me."

On Ashlee Simpson's pregnancy: "I can't wait for the baby to come. I already feel as if I'm an aunt because I talk to that baby all the time. I’m really close to my sister and since she's pregnant right now, she's always around, which is great."

On flubbing '9 to 5' lyrics at the Kennedy Center Honors Show: "In the moment of my failure, I thought my career was over. I was distracted by something else in my life and that's when I ran offstage and cried, and said I didn't want to do it any more," she explains. "Dolly heard about it because every media outlet was asking her, 'How do you feel about Jessica messing up your song?' and the one thing I remember her saying to them was, 'I wrote the dang song and I still forget the lyrics; give the girl a break.'"

On why Dolly Partner is her role model: "She exemplifies everything I want to be; she's a woman, an entertainer and an entrepreneur. She's also one of those people who you know says a prayer for you before she goes to sleep, or thinks about you once during the day. She really inspires the heart of me."

On why she's gone country: "Country music is where my heart is. It's been a shock to the media and the outside world but, to my friends, family and loved ones, it's somewhere I've always been. I'm not setting out to prove anything, I'm just trying to be me. Also, I feel I've been through a lot and I have a lot to say about it."

On recording her album: "I basically packed up some boxes and moved to Nashville for four months, plopped myself down on numerous songwriters' couches, drank a lot of coffee and poured out my heart. This album has been a journey of discovery. When you go through a divorce, you become numb. A lot of people live in denial because it's easier... If you sweep things under the rug, they come back to haunt you. This album was a therapeutic experience."

On if she regrets filming 'Newlyweds': "I don't regret the show or my marriage... It made me who I am. I admit I'm a ditz and I've had my moments; I'm the first one to walk onstage, trip up in front of thousands of people and split my pants, but I don’t take myself too seriously. However, I do look back on that girl and go, 'Oh Lord, she had a lot of growing up to do.'"

More news from the Hollywood Style Awards: Last week, Hollywood Life Magazine announced that Jessica Simpson would be honored as the first-ever recipient of their Hollywood Style Original award. Simpson was to be awarded for both for her personal style and her line of shoes, accessories, fragrance and apparel.

However, the pop star-turned-country crooner was absent from the star-studded ceremony on Sunday night and mysteriously, so was her award. We're told that Simpson had a last-minute scheduling conflict and was unable to make it, and thus had to relinquish her title.

        • One non blonde
There's one very blonde Jessica Simpson moment and it comes the second I meet her. I'm waiting in the bar of the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Manhattan, New York, talking to one of her assistants, who's holding the singer's perfectly coiffured Maltese-poodle cross, Daisy.

The obedient pup is sitting placidly in the crook of his arm like a hand puppet until Simpson rounds the corner, shrieks at a level hitherto unknown to man, and showers her pet with a million kisses.

"Hey, Daisy baby, how was your walk?" she exclaims in her Southern accent. "How are you my darlin'? Look at you..." And on it goes, the high-pitched tone almost shattering the glassware until Daisy, unmoved, is escorted back to her suite.

It's only as Simpson is simultaneously introduced to me and a chilled glass of pinot grigio that her voice returns to a normal pitch. "I've been in a small, dark studio all day," she says, explaining the need for a glass of wine.

"It's wonderful to be in a place where there's sunlight, people and windows." She takes a sip, looks me straight in the eye and, from that point on, it's all business. Jessica Simpson is, to put it mildly, a pleasant surprise.

        • Do you know the new Jessica Simpson?
Jessica Simpson, famous for her blond beauty, incredible voice, marriage to Nick Lachey and tuna-chicken mix-up on her former hit reality TV show, has just debuted her country music CD, Do You Know.

Highly-anticipated, it is unmistakably Jessica Simpson, matched with a background of country harmonies and instruments.

As an avid country listener and a Jessica Simpson fan, I loved the album. Though it was not quite the change from the "old" Jessica Simpson I was expecting, I was pleased that she managed to keep the amazing sound she became known for while incorporating a country feel.

Simpson lives up to her reputation for throaty, impressive vocals and heartfelt lyrics. Her single Come On Over, already popular on country music radio, is the first track on the CD.

Though the album is her big shift into country music, it is much less "country" than Brad Paisley or Tim McGraw.

Instead, her songs fit into the increasingly popular pop-country genre perpetuated by sensations such as Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift and will appeal to listeners of America's Top 40 as well as Chili Cook-Off regulars.

Remember That, the second track on the album and newest single, sounds startlingly personal, as Simpson croons: "Remember that you're gonna be alright. Take it from me, I've stood there in your shoes." The twanging instruments complement Simpson's strong, impassioned voice.

Throughout the CD, the theme continues: a few country harmonies behind the complex melodies of more traditional instruments and Simpson's lyrics.

Simpson was raised as a Christian and got her start in the entertainment industry singing on the Christian music circuit. Her father is a preacher.

On her new album, she throws back to her early Christian music days with Pray Out Loud. Obviously religious and God-loving, the track fuses Christian-pop with subtle country undertones and is surprisingly effective.

Dolly Parton joins Simpson in Do You Know, the title track and the last track on the album. Parton and Simpson's voices blend together well, though Parton's southern accent is more distinctive.

The track is conspicuously slower and more "country" than the rest of the album, sounding more like an old Dolly Parton track than a new Jessica Simpson one.

With fresh lyrics and a fresh sound, Simpson's endeavor into a new genre is as big as it is exciting.

Among the options: Singer/songwriter, actress and reality television personality Jessica Simpson will return to her country music roots on Saturday night. Simpson will perform a 40-minute prerace concert and sing the national anthem at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The concert performance is free with the purchase of a ticket to the Bank of America 500.         • Details of Ashlee's 'White-Trash' Birthday Party Revealed
Ashlee Simpson-Wentz traded her stylish maternity wardrobe for trailer-park chic Friday night, at a costume party to celebrate her 24th birthday.

"It had a white-trash theme," says a guest who attended the bash at Simpson's parents' home in Encino. "Ashlee wore Daisy Dukes and platform flip-flops with a bathing suit and a fake tattoo around her belly."

The singer celebrated with friends and family including husband Pete Wentz, dad Joe and sister Jessica.

"Joe wore a cut-off muscle T-shirt and a mullet wig. It was funny," says a guest. "Jessica was wearing a crazy leopard-print dress that showed off a lot of cleavage."

The menu included corn dogs, macaroni and cheese, chicken fingers and French fries.

With her first child due next month, an exhausted Simpson-Wentz headed home early, missing party guests Christina Aguilera, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, who dropped by after hitting Gwen Stefani's birthday party earlier than night.

"Ashlee loves themed parties and costumes," says a friend. Last year, guests sported prom dresses, vintage tuxedos and fingerless gloves as Simpson-Wentz celebrated her birthday with an '80s bash.

        • Billboard Bits: Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson has been tapped to support Rascal Flatts on the winter leg of the country group's ongoing Bob That Head Tour.

Simpson, who will be on the road supporting her new country album 'Do You Know' (Columbia Nashville), joins the trek for approximately 25 shows in mid-January. Further details about the concerts will be announced later this fall.

Simpson has been performing at fairs and festivals to promote 'Do You Know,' which debuted last month at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart. The set has moved 104,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

        • Jessica Simpson: Country Comforts
The tabloid survivor and erstwhile pop pinup opens up about her new sound, new love and new happiness.

Barry Manilow may have sung it first, but Jessica Simpson's new theme song could be the teeth-clenching survivor's tale, "I Made It Through the Rain." Just make sure to add some fiddle.

The pop princess and tabloid cover girl has gone country and, to hear her tell it, she finally feels at home. Sitting in a red peasant dress and gray hoodie on a sofa at Sony BMG's Nashville, Tenn., headquarters, her adorable maltipoo Daisy snoozing in a chair nearby, Simpson waxes rhapsodic about her new musical direction: "I really wasn't a trendsetter in pop music; I was trying to keep up with the trends," she says. "I finally found where I'm supposed to be."

Years of relentless public scrutiny -- through her gut-wrenching divorce from her reality show co-star Nick Lachey, a seemingly mismatched romance with John Mayer and, now, with new love Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo -- have left Simpson a little wary, but remarkably unguarded. Her intimate feelings, some taken directly from her journal, make up much of the lyrical content on her country debut "Do You Know."

Simpson lived in Nashville while recording the album, but now splits her time between Los Angeles and Dallas so she can cheer on her ball-tossing beau during the upcoming fall season.

MSN Music: What do you want people to learn about you from listening to this album?

Jessica Simpson: I think people just forgot that I sing (laughs). I have been quiet for the past two, almost three years. After the divorce I really just shut off and had to heal before I could be strong enough to take the world on again, so the world took me on and just ran with it and has completely given people a false perception of who I am. With this record I think that people will experience my heart again and experience my voice again.

        • UK news
'Do You Know' debuted at number 77 on the UK Album charts and this was on U.S imports alone. This is 2 weeks before the UK version of the album will be released, and I can't wait for it to be released. Unfornately 'Come on Over' isn't getting much radio airplay but it is getting plays on music channels.

The album was also featured on MTV's "100 most anticipated albums of winter 2008." It featured at number 64.

Also in the Daily Star, It has also been rumoured (not sure if this is true) that she is due to perform in the United Kingdom late november/early december on The X-Factor (U.K version of American Idol). This come around a year after Jess was rumoured to be the new judge on The X-Factor, but she did stat a year ago she was approached but never got back to.

        • Jessica Simpson: "Take Me Back to Nashville!"

Was last night just slow for celeb shutterbugs, or is there a renewed interest in Jessica Simpson after she and Tony Romo were spotted ring shopping? Either way, the paps were out in full force when the Southern singer had dinner at Madeo with former assistant Cacee Cobb. The two lookalike blondes could barely make it through the swarm of snappers to their car. When she finally reached her ride, she yelled, "Take me back to Nashville!" to the crowd. Nashville, interested? Click on the image to watch video.

        • Rascal Flatts announces '09 tour, Jessica Simpson opens
Rascal Flatts announced plans today to continue their sold-out "Bob That Head Tour" into 2009. The 2008 leg will wrap up Nov. 2, after a 2-day stay in Uncasville, Conn. at Mohegan Sun Casino. "Bob That Head Tour" winter 2009 dates will launch in mid-January and will run with approximately 25 shows. Dates, cities and on-sales will be announced later this fall. Jessica Simpson will open the 2009 "Bob That Head Tour" shows.

"There is nothing more we love about music than performing across America on tour for our fans," said lead singer Gary LeVox.

Simpson grew up with a mix of musical influences, and while it was her multi-Platinum pop success that launched her, she released her country debut, "Do You Know" in September with the single Come on Over.

More from Inside the Ballroom:
• Jessica Simpson’s pre-taped two-song performance had a surprise guest: little sis Ashlee Simpson Wentz snuck in just before Jessica started her first song. Wearing jeans and a black flowing shirt, the mom-to-be sat with three female friends and joined in on both of her sister’s well-earned standing ovations. She slipped out the side door as soon as taping finished.

        • First rings ... then bells for Simpson, Romo?
One of my best Dallas snoops just happened to be in the original Neiman Marcus in Big D, shortly after Jessica Simpson and main man and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo were in the store checking out big sparklers -- the kind women wear on their left-hand ring finger.

I'm hearing the couple are talking about a winter wedding. Dallas fans can relax. The happy twosome are said to be planning to tie the knot well after the end of the NFL season, including the Super Bowl -- should the Cowboys make it to the big game in Tampa, Fla.
