        • Ashlee Simpson-Wentz Appreciates Her Assistant
Never let it be said that the Simpsons don't appreciate the little people in their life. Last night, an expectant Ashlee threw a going-away bash for her assistant, and was joined by the entire family. Hubby Pete Wentz was in the house, along with Jessica, Joe, Tina, Jess' old assistant Cacee Cobb...and even Mary-Kate Olsen. The soiree was held at new Hollywood hot spot the Stork, where guests began showing up around 10 p.m. The hip bar and eatery features tapas-style dining, with dishes like seared scallops, steak frites and crispy baby artichokes. Celebs Nicole Richie and Leighton Meester have already stopped in, and tonight Maxim is hosting an X Games party at the hang. But good luck to paps trying to get a picture of guests. Security is reportedly very aggressive with photographers, even shining flashlights to prevent them from getting their money shots.

        • Jessica Simpson 'Loves to Be in Love'
Jessica Simpson's country music career is just kicking off, but she already has plenty of material for songs about bad boys, heartbreak and a romantic Cowboy.

Promoting her new album, Do You Know, in the September issue of Elle, Simpson, 28, says she has found happiness with her Dallas Cowboys quarterback boyfriend Tony Romo, 27, but admits the journey wasn't easy.

"I was going through a lot of pain," she says of life after her split from ex-husband Nick Lachey, 34, in 2005. "I didn't try anything to change my life other than dating different types of guys and conforming to their worlds. I thought I had to be artsier, more intellectual."

One of those guys was John Mayer, 30, who's now dating Jennifer Aniston. The pair had a rocky year-long romance that ended last spring, but she has no hard feelings.

"John believed in the Jessica Simpson that's within," she tells the magazine. "He cherished our love. He helped make me the woman I am today. John is going to be an amazing man for someone, but I know that I was supposed to be with someone else."

Simpson says Romo is different from all of her exes. "Most of the guys I dated were captivated by my heart but they had different ways of trying to get to me. Tony understands me. He appreciates my talent. He's the first person I've spiritually connected with. I'm a girl that loves to be in love," she gushes. "I love love!"

Still, not all of her tunes are happy ones: "Remember That" is about an abusive relationship. "There's nothing on my album that you're gonna hear that I don't relate to or that I haven't experienced," she says. "Because the only way I know how to sing is from life experience. I don't want to talk about it, but I have definitely experienced abuse in a way that I would tell people to take their heart and run."

But things are good with Romo. While performing at a recent country music festival, she dedicated her new song "You're My Sunday" to the QB, who is supportive of her new musical direction. "It's the cutest thing," she says. "He'll say, 'Jessica, 75 percent of the comments about your new single ['Come On Over'] are favorable.'"

September 18, 2003: Jessica Simpson at Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2004 Collection Fashion Show during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Bryant Park (hq).
        • Elle excerpt
On her life changing incident:
“I was singing ‘9 to 5’ and I choked and forgot the words in front of the president and in front of Dolly Parton, who’s like the president to me. And the last time I sang in front of the president , I had messed up the lyrics to ‘God Bless America’ so its kind of a thing I have with George W. Anyway, I broke down and said I’m sorry in front of the whole audience. My dad was there. I looked him in the face and said, ‘I will never sing again.’ “

On feeling like America’s most wanted:
“So many people want to bring me down, and I can’t wait to prove them wrong. If they believe what they read about me, they automatically persecute and torment me.”

On her father and manager, Joe Simpson, running his daughter’s love life and career:
“That’s ludicrous. He just wants me to be happy. Our whole family gets beaten, but that just brings us closer. So people are really doing themselves a disservice.”

On her rocky love life:
“I was going through a lot of pain. I didn’t try anything to change my life other than dating different types of guys and conforming to their worlds. I thought I had to be artsier, more intellectual.”

On her relationship with John Mayer:
“John believed in the Jessica Simpson that’s within. He cherished our love. He helped make me the woman I am today. John is going to be an amazing man for someone, but I know that I was supposed to be with someone else.”

On recording a song about abuse:
“I had to record that. There’s nothing on my album that you’re gonna hear that I don’t relate to or that I haven’t experienced. Because the only way I know how to sing is from life experience. I don’t want to talk about it, but I have definitely experienced abuse in a way that I would tell people to take their heart and run.”

On Tony Romo:
“Most of the guys I dated were captivated by my heart but they had different ways of trying to get to me. Tony understands me. He appreciates my talent. He’s the first person I’ve spiritually connected with. I’m a girl that loves to be in love. I love love!”

        • Does Jessica Have a New Quarterback on Her Mind?
While pop star turned country singer Jessica Simpson might be romantically involved with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, she had a different football hunk on her mind Wednesday night — future Hall of Famer Brett Favre!

While attending a party hosted by her little sister Ashlee Simpson at new L.A. restaurant The Stork, an OK! spy overheard the Employee of the Month star talking football with a fellow partygoer. The conversation quickly turned to Favre, the legendary Green Bay Packers QB who may or may not be returning to the field this season.

"I hear he might go the [Minnesota] Vikings," Jess, who is apparently now a gridiron insider, told her pal. "He's the oldest player in football but he loves to play, like Tony."

(Note to Jessica: Favre is only 38 and not the oldest player in football.)

And it's not just their desire to play the game that Brett and Tony share. Tony is a Wisconsin native; Brett is a folk hero in Wisconsin where in the course of 16 seasons he has shattered most of the NFL's passing records and has never missed a single game. Tony has repeatedly gushed about how Favre is his idol and his playing style has often been compared to a young Favre.

        • Jessica Simpson: Just a country girl in love
Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo are a match made in Texas heaven.

"Most of the guys I dated were captivated by my heart, but they had different ways of trying to get to me. Tony understands me," Simpson, 28, shares with September's Elle, out Aug. 11. "He appreciates my talent. He's the first person I've spiritually connected with."

After all, the couple pray aloud together before meals and before going to bed, according to Elle. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback also takes the girl from Abilene, Texas, to church and reports to her about what blogs are saying.

"It's the cutest thing," Simpson says of Romo, 28. "He'll say, 'Jessica, 75% of the comments about your new single are favorable.' "

Simpson, who split from ex-husband Nick Lachey in 2005 after three years of a high-profile marriage chronicled by the MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, appears to have found Mr. Right, for now. She has had a string of suitors since she and Lachey parted ways, including singer John Mayer.

        • Jessica Simpson: 'I Have Definitely Experienced Abuse'
Jessica Simpson talks about abuse in an all-new interview with Elle magazine in which the pop star and actress is more candid than ever. When asked by an Elle writer if she's been physically abused, Simpson replied, "I don't want to talk about it, but I have definitely experienced abuse in a way that I would tell people to take their heart and run."

Simpson told the mag that all of the songs on her forthcoming country album (on which she worked with Dolly Parton) are written from personal experience -- Elle reports that one song, "Remember That," features the lyrics, "It doesn't matter how he hurts you, With his hands or with his words, You don't deserve it, It ain't worth it, Take your heart and run."

Country music’s latest pop-singing refugee has landed a spot on the September issue of Elle Magazine. Jessica Simpson looks every bit the country princess as she poses in a plaid top matched with fitted jeans and a decorative belt buckle on the front of the style mag, on newsstands August 11.

“I was going through a lot of pain,” Jess tells Elle of the period immediately following her 2005 split from ex-husband Nick Lachey. “I didn’t try anything to change my life other than dating different types of guys and conforming to their worlds. I thought I had to be artsier, more intellectual.”

“Most of the guys I dated were captivated by my heart, but they had different ways of trying to get to me. Tony understands me. He appreciates my talent. He’s the first person I’ve spiritually connected with.”

“It’s the cutest thing,” a beaming Jess said of Tony. “He’ll say, ‘Jessica, 75% of the comments about your new single are favorable.’ “

        • Q&A with Jessica Simpson: She's going country
The music/reality TV/movie/tabloid star says she's going country and not looking back.

"I plan on making country music for a looooooong time!" she told Indy.com in a recent e-mail interview.

Simpson will introduce Hoosier fans to her new style when she performs during the Indiana State Fair at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 on the Hoosier Lottery Grandstage.

"I plan to sing almost my entire new album, and some of my favorite country songs growing up," she said.

Simpson's much anticipated country album debut, "Do You Know" from the Columbia Nashville label, is set for a Sept. 9 release. In advance of her State Fair appearance, Simpson talked about her transition to country, her favorite fair memories and more.

Lots of legendary music acts have headlined the Indiana State Fair -- The Beatles, Johnny Cash and Diana Ross and the Supremes. How does it feel to be in that company?

I feel completely honored to be in the same company with such amazing, talented and legendary artists! I have been listening to them since I was young -- they've inspired me to be the artist that I have become today for sure.

What are some of your favorite memories of going to the state fair as a kid?

I used to perform (dance) at the State Fair of Texas when I was in the fifth grade, and I used to LOVE to go see the pigs in the petting zoo. I always wanted one after I saw them there for the first time!

How has your transition into country music gone, and how is it different for you than what you have done before?

I have always felt at home singing country music, and actually tried to sing it before now, but it just wasn't the right timing. I grew up listening to country, so the transition has felt comfortable for me. The country community has made me feel so welcome.

How much are you looking to expand your acting career, or are you focusing more on music right now?

I love to act; it's a different outlet for me to be creative and challenge myself, so you never know when I'll do another project. But right now I'm so excited to have everyone hear this album, and I want to do all I can to get it out there. I have a lot of fair dates booked, and probably a tour at the top of the year, so you'll hopefully be seeing a lot of me singing the next few months!

You have a number of fashion/beauty products; do you have plans to expand this part of your marketing?

My perfume, Fancy, comes out Aug. 15, and I have plans to expand to dresses and even luggage!

Can you describe the pressure/feelings of having every public action analyzed for millions to see? How are you able to maintain your privacy?

It's definitely a challenge to try to maintain some sort of private life with all the interest people seem to have with celebrities lately. It's crazy! I constantly find myself looking to see if we're being followed, even to the grocery store. I can't believe anyone would really want to know what I ate for lunch, or watch me pump my gas, but I guess somebody does because photographers are everywhere! At the end of the day, I can't worry about what I might look like, or if someone's taking pictures from behind a bush somewhere, because it would literally drive me crazy! I try to just do what I do and not read all the comments people write on the Internet.

What is your favorite Indiana memory?

I've been to Indianapolis a few times on tour, but one of my favorite memories was singing at the Indy 500!

        • Jessica Simpson Visits Tony Romo at Training Camp
Though she was deemed a bad luck charm for the Dallas Cowboys last season, that isn’t stopping Jessica Simpson from visiting her boyfriend Tony Romo at training camp. The “Come On Over” songstress was spotted arriving at the Oxnard, California training facility to show her stud some love. And she looked hot enough to distract the whole team in her long flowing orange summer dress.

After practice was over, Romo rushed back to their hotel to pick Miss Simpson up before heading out to a local restaurant for dinner. On their way in, Jess had to hike up her dress a bit to keep from tripping over the bottom of it. And at one point they had a good laugh as Tony had to hold Jessica’s other hand to help her keep her balance.

        • Jess Stands By Her Man
Jessica Simpson took a quick break from promoting her new country album over the weekend to meet up with boyfriend Tony Romo who's in Oxnard Calif., practicing with the Dallas Cowboys. The blonde bombshell hopped a plane from NYC to L.A. Friday night with her b.f.f. and stylist Ken Paves. According to an eyewitness, Jessica met up with her expectant sister Ashlee Simpson and brother-in-law Pete Wentz on Saturday at papa Joe Simpson's home in Sherman Oaks. The group enjoyed an early dinner before Jess left to meet up with Tony.

The source tells OK!, that after finishing practice on Saturday, Romo headed straight to Jessica's Beverly Hills mansion where the lovebirds hunkered down for the rest of the night and much of Sunday, before Jess caught a plane back to NYC that night. Making it work!

        • Papa Joe: Jessica Simpson will arrive at Cowboys' training camp soon
I promised that I wouldn't blog about Jessica Simpson unless she showed up at training camp. Well, I've confirmed that she is coming to Oxnard, so that's good enough to me.

Papa Joe Simpson attended this afternoon's workout. Jessica didn't join him on the hour-or-so-drive from Encino, Calif., but Papa Joe said his daughter would be here "soon." She's a huge Cowboys fan who just happens to be dating the franchise quarterback.

"She's coming to the games this year, so you better get ready," Papa Joe said. "She's a fan from the beginning to the end."

Let's all hope that the NFL Films folks can talk Jessica into singing "You're My Sunday" for Hard Knocks. I'm sure Jerry would be happy to let here use the stage from Friday's opening ceremony.

I know you folks are more interested in reading about football than gossip/country music, so I asked Papa Joe for his thoughts on Tony Romo.

"He better have the year of his life," Papa Joe said. "I hope he does. He works hard -- always working his game, always thinking about it."

        • Jessica Simpson performing in Akwesasne
Jessica Simpson will attempt to sing her way into the hearts of Akwesasne as the headlining act at a music festival later this summer. The Akwesasne Music Festival is scheduled to feature the fluffy songstress and pop rock band Smash Mouth at the Discount Concert Grounds in Hogansburg, New York on Aug. 29.

The concert is also a chance for an 21-year-old Akwesasne, Ont. woman, Teioswathe Peters, to promote her mother's efforts to keep the Mohawk language alive in the territory. Peters will be introducing Simpson in English and Mohawk, a privilege she won when she took the top spot in the Nation's Next Top Model contest sponsored by Jacobs Tobacco, which also sponsors the concert.

Teioswathe's mother, Margaret Peters, a language curriculum specialist with the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education, says there may be traditional native dancers performing before Smash Mouth and Simpson, but that is subject to approval by the performers' managers.

"It's actually kind of funny because Teioswathe is very shy and she never believed she would win in the event," Peters said. "She was encouraged to participate and almost dropped out a few times. She's very nervous about meeting jessica and about introducing her."

Teioswathe is also said to be a big fan of Simpson.

Jessica Simpson was full of holiday cheer today. And a full entourage, as well. I'm told there were at least a half a dozen people in her posse when she arrived to shoot her Macy's commercial this morning in Brooklyn, N.Y...

"She also had her dog in a Louis Vuitton carrier," a source reports. "And her mom may have even been there, too."

Simpson was expected to finish her bit in less than a day.

The source reports that the campaign—directed for the second year in a row by big-time Hollywood helmer Barry Levinson—includes two different scenarios. One features a woman trying to get ready for a date, and another centers around the famous "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" newspaper editorial from 1897.

Simpson will be promoting her shoe line in the ads. As I told you yesterday, Martha Stewart, Kenneth Cole, Tommy Hilfiger and What Not to Wear host Clinton Kelly are part of the campaign.

Buzz on the set today was Donald Trump and Carlos Santana will also be participating.

        • NASHVILLE SKYLINE: In Defense of Jessica Simpson
As regular readers of this column know, I'm no cheerleader for Jessica Simpson. Nonetheless, I am compelled to defend her in the matter of recent shoddy so-called journalism and blogging. I believe in fair play for all artists. At least until they prove themselves unworthy of any play, fair or otherwise.

I believe that all artists (hell, all people) should get a fair shake. And that they should be allowed to succeed or fail on their own merits. In the blogosphere at large, not to mention areas of journalism itself, that sense of fairness does not exist. Large numbers of sites, including so-called reputable news organizations, took an initial report about Simpson and ran with it unquestioningly. It all stems from her country music debut on Saturday (July 19) at the Country Thunder USA festival in Twin Lakes, Wis. Read more.

        • Trend Alert: Single, Double and Triple Braids

Jessica Simpson was one of the original three to launch the summertime braids look. Last year, she would often wear her hair half-up and half down with a loosely woven braid that ran along either side of her head. In 2000 at the Teen Choice Awards, we saw a more youthful Jess donning a daring triple braid on the red carpet — and over the weekend, Jessica was seen performing her first concert in over three years, but this time she has a pretty single plait on the left side of her hair only.

It's great to see that she hasn't lost her interest in this hairstyle, because it is such an easy, adorable and practical way to keep your hair out of your eyes. If you were to wear your hair in braids, do you think that you would most likely wear a braid on each side, a thin braid on one side only or three flirty thin braids?

Jessica Simpson will release her highly anticipated debut country album, 'Do You Know?' on September 13. Produced by Brett James and John Shanks, Simpson co-wrote all but three of the tracks featured on the disc, including her current US Top 25 hit single, 'Come On Over'.

Simpson is certainly ready to come on over to country music. Recorded in Nashville, TN, this album gives listeners an inside look into the real Jessica Simpson.

"Every single song is a piece of my heart... who I am," comments Simpson. "I'm not what everybody thinks that I am. Believe it or not, I'm a simple country girl. I might buy expensive shoes," she laughs, "But, I'm definitely a simple country girl and this album will hopefully give people a sense of who Jessica is again."

Helping share Simpson's story is none other than country legend Dolly Parton who lends her powerful vocals to the title track, 'Do You Know?'. Parton wrote this record just for Simpson.

"It's such a great song," comments Simpson.

"I'm so blessed to be able to sing with her on it... she is so much a part of me finding myself as an artist."

Simpson will be giving country fans a preview of her new music as she hits the road this summer, playing select US fairs and festivals.

I saw Jessica Simpson kissing Santa Claus. Well, not exactly. But she will be in New York tomorrow shooting the new holiday television ad campaign for Macy's department stores.

Simpson, along with Martha Stewart, Kenneth Cole, Tommy Hilfiger and What Not to Wear makeover guru Clinton Kelly, will film spots on a full-scale replica of a Macy's floor built on a Brooklyn set. No word on who else may have made the cut this time around, but others in a similar campaign last year included Sean "Diddy" Combs, Style Network reality star Kimora Lee Simmons, Russell Simmons, Marc Ecko and Emeril Lagasse.

Macy's most recently made headlines with a springtime commercial featuring Mariah Carey and Stewart cooing over Halle Berry's baby daddy, pretty-boy model Gabriel Aubry.

        • Fan review - Country Thunder
From Margaret: "Sweetkisses.net,

I've never written in before, but I've been a fan of your site for at least seven or eight years, and have been a Jessica Simpson fan since I was twelve or thirteen years old, eight years ago. I've never been able to make it out to a concert, since I'm from the small, middle-of-nowhere town of Twin Lakes, WI. Needless to say, when I heard Jess was coming to country thunder it was a dream come true.

I wanted to make sure to send in an honest review of her concert, as a fan of Jess and a fan of country music. I was worried about Jess when I heard that she was coming to country thunder, since I know the people of my town and the typical crowd at country thunder. They are definitely not Jessica fans or the typical audience Jessica would perform for. I was so angry before the concert because people arount the festival were doing "sit-ins" against Jessica performing at country thunder. At the opening of the show, I did hear a few boos and negative comments.

However, Jessica absolutely blew me and the rest of the audience away. I've never been so proud of her before. She started off a concert facing animosity and negativity and completely changed the atmosphere. Her voice was so incredible when she sang "Do You Know" that countless people in the reserved seating area gave her a standing ovation afterward. She was by far the best PERFORMER of all the artists I've ever seen at country thunder; that girl knows how to work up a crowd. I heard so, so many people say "Wow, she was actually really good." All I can say is, I think she definitely changed a lot of peoples' minds and broke a lot of barriers. She wasn't even the closing act, and I personally don't think Sara Evans held a torch to Jessica's performance. She completely stole the show- and brought me to tears!"

- Thank you for sharing your review Margaret!

        • Jessica Simpson Sets Date For, Names Album
Jessica Simpson has christened her debut country album "Do You Know" and will release it Sept. 9 via Columbia Nashville. First single "Come on Over" rises 26-23 this week on Billboard's Hot Country songs chart.

There are several other potential winners on the album, particularly the slow-burning "Might As Well Be Making Love," which has shades of Faith Hill's powerful belting, and the autobiographical "Pray Out Loud," which nods to the rootsy charm of the Dixie Chicks.

Elsewhere, Simpson offers comfort to a victim of domestic abuse on "Remember That" and sings with Dolly Parton on the title track, which Parton penned. "I look in the mirror and I know I'm doing the right thing with my career and my life," Simpson told Billboard recently. "It's a great place of comfort."

The album was produced by Brett James and John Shanks, with songwriting contributions coming from Rachel Proctor, Victoria Banks, Troy Verges and Hillary Lindsey, among others.

Beyond a slew of morning and late-night talk show performances in the coming weeks, Simpson is making the rounds at U.S. country festivals. Next up is the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis on Aug. 7.

In addition, Simpson will in August launch a new fragrance, "Fancy," to complement her existing fashion line of shoes, outerwear and lingerie.

        • Jessica Simpson: “I’ll Never Record A Pop Album Again!”

Jessica Simpson announced at Country Thunder on Saturday night that she’s in country music to stay and is never recording a pop album again to a thunder of applause!

“I feel so at home in this genre of music and I just want you guys to know that I am not making another pop record ever again,” Simpson told cheering fans. “I’m staying in country and that’s where I plan to be.”

Watch the video to hear it straight from Jessica’s mouth!

For all the false reports that claim Simpson was booed Saturday night, we know that is not going to stop this new force in country music. She said so herself!

“If you don’t go buy this record on September 9th I’m just going to make another one and you’re going to buy it on another September 9th,” Simpson said.

You go country girl!

Country Thunder’s final day of music came to a close this past weekend in Twin Lakes, WI. The Saturday line-up featured some of the best in the business! Newcomer Danielle Peck and country boy Luke Bryan gave exceptional afternoon performances. The beautiful Kellie Pickler brought down the house early into the evening, and pop star turned country artist Jessica Simpson served as the opening act for the festival’s closer, Sara Evans. Jessica performed her NEW single, “Come On Over” among others. Evans blew through hits like “Born To Fly,” and “Coalmine” to name a few.

        • Proof Jessica Simpson Was Not Booed At Her Country Concert!

Here are the videos proving that Jessica Simpson was NOT booed at her country music debut at the Country Thunder music festival in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. Not only was she well-received by the audience, the festival management was so pleased with her performance that they want her back next year, according to a festival spokesperson.

“All this bad press is coming from one newspaper report, and it’s not true,” the spokesperson said. “She did an amazing job!”

On top of that, NONE of the on-line publications (with the exception of us and People) were even AT the event! Don’t believe the lies people! Check out our videos so you can see for yourself.

In the first video Simpson told the audience that she was going to sing two more songs, but then decided only to sing one more. To that people in the audience shouted “no” because they wanted to hear more!

When Jess asked if they want two they shouted “yes” and there was no booing. When Simpson said she’d sing two more songs people cheered.

When Simpson sang Son of a Preacher Man she was a chatterbox and stopped the song in the beginning to tell a story about her parents. She said, “I know I am a chatterbox, you guys should just tell me to shut up and sing!”

Some people in the audience did shout just that, but they didn’t boo!

So there you have it. I’m sure there were some people in the audience who weren’t Simpson fans and I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few people who booed. There always seems to be that one a**hole at every event who boos! However, we didn’t see or hear it!

It’s sad that every blog and on-line magazine is picking up the one lone bad story that is coming from a podunk newspaper report. This was Jessica Simpson’s big country debut that she worked her a** off getting ready for and did a great job. We hope there are noble outlets out there that will pick up the true story!

        • Jessica Simpson's father, agents, thrilled with her first country show
Members of Jessica Simpson’s career team say they are thrilled with her first country performance Saturday at Country Thunder, a Wisconsin music festival.

Her father/manager, Joe Simpson, strongly disputed an account of his daughter’s show that appeared in a local paper.

“The great thing is, she hasn’t been onstage for three years for a concert,” Joe Simpson, said today. “She sang a 90-minute set and killed it. Tony Romo was there with all of his family. He is from Burlington, which is 12 miles away, so 25 of his family members were there. It was a big fun night and nothing but a, ‘Yeah!’ at the end.”

After Simpson’s show, Joe Simpson was approached by Gil Cunningham, who books acts for Country Thunder. “He said, ‘I’ve already got a contract for the show for next year. We want her back. It’s the best thing we’ve had this year,'” Joe Simpson said.

CAA agent Rod Essig said he immediately received offers for Simpson from seven festivals for 2009.

So they were surprised to discover that the Kenosha News reported that she was welcome with a mixture of boos and cheers. The article also interviewed several young men who criticized her attempt at going country, but no young women, the latter of which is her fan base, Joe Simpson noted.

The article didn’t review Simpson’s voice or songs, but noted the crowd response. A 19-year-old man was quoted as saying Simpson is an embarrassment to country music, while a 21-year-old man said he didn’t hear the country or twang in her voice.

Joe Simpson, who said that the festival’s attendance didn’t pick up until they reached Simpson's and Kellie Pickler’s portion of the show, said the few drunk hecklers were drowned out by a sea of cheers.

“We knew we were going to have to deal with that,” he said of hecklers. “The great thing was this crowd just became electric. When she sang the song Dolly Parton wrote for her (“Do You Know”), she got a standing ovation, which I hadn’t seen all day.”

He said Simpson told the crowd that she was cutting her set by two songs and instead going immediately into her single, but the audience reaction indicated that they didn’t want her to shorten her set. “That doesn’t sound like a crowd that doesn’t love her,” he said. “The crazy part is we were so happy at the end of the concert because of the audience response.”

CAA agent Stan Barnett said any artist would get heckled at an event where people start drinking by noon. She said the heckling came during an auction of a Simpson-signed guitar. When Simpson came onstage, the crowd reaction “got bigger and bigger until the end of the night, and then she got on ovation.

“It was not like this newspaper article said at all,” he said. “If it was, I would have kept my mouth shut.

“After the show, I told Joe, ‘Holy smokes! That was great.’ And it wasn’t lip service.”

In the pre-Internet days, a review in a small newspaper would have little or no impact on an artist’s career because only a few would see it. But with the Internet, such reports can quickly become a national news story. If no national outlets are there, this review will be used as the account of record on the event. Once one account is circulated, those that offer differing reviews will probably not receive the attention as the first account.

"If you put good stuff out about Jessica, there's going to be no coverage," Joe Simpson said. "If you put out something negative, it will be picked up nationally.

“My frustration is today we went Top 20 on both charts—R&R and Mediabase, Here we are: the record is really moving, things are going good, and this one girl (writes this.)”

On Tuesday, Parton will record her part for “Do You Know,” Simpson’s title track. Simpson will perform at the Opry on Sept. 6 and will release her debut country album on Sept. 9.

        • A 'Thankful' Jessica Simpson Gets Emotional at Country Festival
Jessica Simpson got emotional as she performed at a country music festival in Wisconsin on Saturday night.

Playing to a crowd of several thousand – including boyfriend Tony Romo – at Country Thunder USA, Simpson broke down in tears during her performance. "This is my first time being on stage in three years," she said. "Coming out tonight makes me extremely emotional, I'm so thankful for all of the personal struggles and all of the tabloids and all of the people that talk s---. I'm so happy I went through that because it makes life so much more beautiful," she continued, choking back tears.

Simpson even dedicated a song to Romo entitled "You're My Sunday." "Tonight there's this guy here, he throws a football and he's really good at it, he's my better tomorrow and I wrote this song for him," she told the crowd. She also addressed the difficulties surrounding her fame. "Any man that is going to date me has to put up with a lot," she said.

The crowd reaction to Simpson was varied: She received both applause and boos as she performed, and concertgoers gave mixed reviews to the Kenosha News. "Just because she's dating (Dallas Cowboy quarterback) Tony Romo it doesn't make her country," said Mike Rodriguez, 31, from Lake Geneva.

Other audience members were more positive. "I actually like her country songs better," said Mary Grace, 24. "She has a great voice, plus, she's adorable."

Addressing the crowd, Simpson said, "I don't know what your perception is of Jessica Simpson or what tabloid you buy, but I just want you to know that I'm just a girl from Texas; I'm just like you. I'm doing what I love and dating a boy.”

The Texas native, 28, is trying to crossover into a country career with her new single "Come On Over." The song is at #23 on this week’s Billboard country singles chart. Her country album, Do You Know?, is due Sept. 9.

Simpson opened with a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s "These Boots Are Made For Walking." She also sang covers of Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again," and Shania Twain's "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?"

Simpson's rep, Cindi Berger, tells PEOPLE that the singer felt "fantastic" about the show. "She loves getting out there and performing and being with her fans. She felt at home with country fans and the other country artists who were there."

After Romo and friends hung out on Simpson's bus after the concert, he and Simpson climbed into an SUV and headed out together.

        • Jessica Simpson Professes Her Love For Tony Romo At Country Thunder!
Jessica Simpson made her country debut over the weekend at Country Thunder and the tune she sang the most revolved around her love for boyfriend Tony Romo!

During one of Simpson’s songs at the country music festival in Twin Lakes, Wisc., she announced that she wrote a song titled You’re My Sunday just for him.

“He throws a football and he’s really really good at it. He is my better tomorrow and I wrote this song for him. It’s called You’re My Sunday.”

Simpson’s performance was her first ever with her new country songs and she had not only the support of her dad Joe and Romo’s, she also had Tony’s whole family there. Simpson was extremely nervous to face country fans and practiced for several weeks, according to a source. She was so anxious about it that she insisted on not seeing Tony till after the show!

“She didn’t want to see him till after the show,” a festival source said. “She didn’t see him all day and he didn’t show up until right before her performance.”

Prior to her performance Simpson went for lunch with her dad to Popeye’s in Lake Geneva and enjoyed a massage and mani-pedi from a technician at Ra salon in Twin Lakes.

After the show, Romo surprised Simpson with a bouquet of flowers and gushed to his family members about how well she did.

“It was good, good!,” Romo exclaimed to his family outside of her tour bus with a huge smile on his face. “Wasn’t she great!”

After the show Simpson took some photos with fans and told them she was going to hit the sack. (Or perhaps Tony first?)

“I’m exhausted!” Simpson exclaimed. “I’m going to go straight to bed.”

Keep checking back. We have videos of Jess from the show to come!

        • A Review From A Skeptic From Country Thunder
I was very much a skeptic at first, but am willing to give everyone a chance. Well, when I saw her live last night at Country Thunder I was AMAZED!!!! She was really, really good. I didn’t realize she had the voice that she does. My foot is definitly in my mouth for past remarks I’ve made. She has a sort of country/gospel sound that I really like. My girlfriend filled me in that she first recorded gospel music as an early teen and it came thru in the music. Some of her new material that is suppose to be on her new album is inspirational and I’m glad she has decided to make her home here in country music. We should all feel blessed for that, seriously. Wait, until you hear some of her other songs and you’ll be seeing what I’m talking about.

btw I was next to a couple who were very vocal and booing Jessica as she came up onto the stage and by the end of her set she made some fans out of them too. The one dude was even moved to tears on one song telling his wife, I assumed, that her voice made him think about an angel landing on earth and embracing the audience with lyrics that really touched him.

Amazing! I’ve actually got 9-9-08 reserved in my calander to pick up a copy of her cd and I will not be ashamed to blast it on my car stereo. And off-topic, this whole Carrie vs. Jessica argument is really childish and doesn’t belong in country music. I respect both of these young female singers and will support the music I enjoy to listen to. That being said, some of the songs Jessica sung last night blew away songs I’ve heard recently by all these other supposedly ‘authentic’ country singers. I hope that everyone will just be patient and not judge, in which I think we shouldn’t even judge cause that is left up to God, but be respectful and open up our arms to Jessica and embrace her as she has started to do with so many new listeners and newly-enlisted fans.

        • Country Thunder USA - Fan review
Just wanted to let you guys know that I was at Jessica's first country concert ever last night in Twin Lakes, WI (she also said it was her first concert in three years). She was GREAT! She opened the show with These Boots are Made for Walkin' she also covered On The Road Again, Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under, and Sold (The Grundy County Auction Song). I thought they were interesting choices. She played for 75 minutes. Did a bunch of her new song which all sounded very good and definitely country. The only song that she sang from her past (besides boots which could technically be considered a cover) was her massive hit from 4 years ago, With You. She closed with Come On Over. The crowd welcomed her and absolutely loved her set. Congrats J Simp!!

        • More info on Fancy
Continuing in the trend, WWD also reports on Jessica Simpson's new scent, Fancy Jessica Simpson. The fragrance is a floral scent, and will be launching in August at Macy's, Dillard's, Belk and Bon-Ton, in addition to other department stores in the U.S. Although WWD dubs it an oriental scent, we think the name and bottle go hand-in-hand with Simpson's new country music career, especially since the fragrance and album promotion will occur simultaneously.

The perfume will be composed of top notes of pear, apricot nectar and red fruits; middle notes of gardenia, jasmine, toasted almonds and caramel; and bottom notes of sandalwood, vanilla cre`me and amber crystals.

Source: Second City Style (thanks honestly speaking!)

Pop singer and actress Jessica Simpson has created a new fragrance that brings together gardenia, pears and amber crystals for an aroma called "Fancy."

The trio of vintage-inspired, rose-gold floral motif bottles hits stores Aug. 15. Print ads will run in leading fashion magazines, including Vogue, Cosmopolitan, CosmoGIRL! and Seventeen, in September. Simpson is also endorsing the launch via promotional inserts in her upcoming country album, Do You Know, which comes out Sept. 9.

"Fancy" marks the first prestigious perfume launch for Simpson, said Neil Katz, CEO of Parlux Fragrances, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., which has licensing agreements with celebrities like Simpson, Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick. Katz did not disclose spending for the campaign.

The "Fancy" line costs $59 for a 3.4 oz-bottle; $49 for 1.7 ounces and $30 for 6 ounces. Accompanying the purchase is a soft-pink, vintage-inspired cosmetic case. Perfumer Alexis Dadier of Mane Paris collaborated with Simpson on the launch.

        • Terrell Owens Says Jessica Simpson "Welcome to the Stadium Anytime"
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens says he was joking last year when he said Tony Romo's girlfriend Jessica Simpson was not a "fan favorite — in this locker room or in Texas Stadium."

(Critics claimed Simpson, 28, had jinxed Romo's career by showing up at one of his football games that he lost last year.)

"She doesn’t really know my personality. I think Tony knew I was kidding," Owens, 34, told Usmagazine.com Tuesday at the ESPY Style Studio in L.A. "I don’t regret it because I was just having fun. I was just teasing her."

"I talked to her about it and gave her a hard time about it," Owens added.

But in the end, "I told her she is welcome to the stadium anytime. I told her she can come down and sit in my section," he told Us. "I’m sure she will be back!”

Owens said he's thrilled Simpson and his teammate, 28, are still an item.

"I’m sure they are having a great time — they are probably off on vacation right now," he told Us. "They seem happy."

        • Jewel to Jessica Simpson: ‘Come On Over’ to Country
Jessica Simpson has encountered some skeptics since announcing her plan to leave pop music and go country, but don’t count Jewel among them.

Instead, the Nashville Star judge offers a warm country welcome to Simpson, whose debut single, “Come on Over,” has cracked the top 25 on the Mediabase country airplay chart.

“I really like Jessica. She’s always been such a sweet, sweet person,” Jewel tells PEOPLE. “If I were going to give her any advice, I would say work hard and be authentic. Be true to who you are.”

If she does that, Jewel says, country fans will continue to embrace her. “The thing about country music is its fans have an excellent authenticity meter. They can spot bull—- a mile away,” Jewel says. “Anyone who comes to country music just to dabble in it, or who doesn’t know it or respect it as a genre and respect its history and tradition, is not going to make it.” That’s the same advice Jewel gives the contestants on the NBC reality competition Nashville Star, which she judges with John Rich and Jeffrey Steele.

And she should know. When it comes to her own music, including the recently released, chart-topping album, Perfectly Clear, Jewel is — well, perfectly clear that it ain’t her first rodeo in Nashville.

“I was raised on country music. It’s not as if I woke up one day and said, ‘I think I’ll be a country artist.’ I’m doing the same kind of music now that I have always done,” she says. ” If “You Were Meant For Me” (one of the hits from her first album Pieces of You) was released today, it would be a country song, I’d be signed to a Nashville label and my music would be promoted on country radio.”

In fact, Perfectly Clear is on a Nashville label (The Valory Music Co.), and the first single, “Stronger Woman,” is played on country radio. The new single, “I Do,” has just been released along with a video costarring her real-life boyfriend, rodeo cowboy Ty Murray.

Simpson’s wrote or co-wrote all but three of the songs on her first country album, due out this fall. No word on whether her real-life boyfriend, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, will appear in any music videos.

        • Jessica Simpson: New Country Video 'So Much Fun'
For Jessica Simpson fans waiting for the star's first country music video, come on over!

The singer is premiering the video for "Come On Over" – the hit single off her debut country album Do You Know?, out Sept. 9 – on her Web site Friday. The video will be available online until its TV premiere on EXTRA Monday night.

"I had so much fun making my video, I'm so glad y'all finally get to see it!" Simpson – who celebrated her 28th birthday Thursday – wrote on her Web site.

Liz Friedlander, who has directed clips for Celine Dion, R.E.M., and Blink 182, shot Simpson's video at the Little Creek Ranch in southern California.

The singer has made some memorable videos: She had fans in a lather over her steamy car wash in the 2005 clip for "These Boots Were Made for Walkin'," and 2006's "A Public Affair," directed by Brett Ratner, co-starred Eva Longoria, Christina Applegate, Eva Mendes and Christina Milian.

For "Come On Over," there aren't any celeb cameos – but fans will get a glimpse of the bottle for her new perfume, Fancy.

In May, Simpson became the highest-charting debut solo artist in the history of the Billboard Country Singles Chart when "Come On Over" debuted at No. 41.

        • Jessica Simpson's Country Album Due September 9
Jessica Simpson's long-awaited country album is due out September 9, her father Joe tells Usmagazine.com.

"It’s going to be a great year," he told Us at a taping of Pete Wentz's new show F'N MTV in Hollywood Thursday. "It’s 9-9 — she’s into nines this year," he added. "We hope it’s a wonderful joy. It feels really good. She is extremely happy."

The video for "Come on Over," her first single, debuts on her Web site Saturday. "Next week it’ll be on CMT," Joe said.

Joe said his daughter — who turned 28 Thursday — is perfect for country music, calling it "the heartland of America.

"We forget on the East and West coasts that there is a whole country in between," Joe said. "That’s our home, and that’s Jessica’s home."

Asked why she recorded a country album, Jessica told Billboard earlier this year: "I am a country girl. I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to." Citing Martina McBride, newly single Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Reba McEntire as inspirations, she said, "I think there is a strength in female country artists."

This weekend, Simpson is headed to Lake Tahoe, where beau Tony Romo is playing in a golf tournament. "We'll probably rent a boat and go out on the lake on Saturday," Romo told Us.

        • Jessica Simpson Avoids Tabloid Set-Up
Jessica Simpson — you may remember that apart from whom she’s dating, her reality show and a recent anointing by a tabloid for Best Breasts — is a singer. The problem was, her powerful voice got lost in all the noise.

On Wednesday, I got to hear five tracks from her upcoming country album. I’m happy to report that Jessica has found her groove and a context for her pop vocalizing. Her adventure in Nashville sounds like a success. Get ready to see her move into the niche once occupied by Olivia Newton-John.

The album, due in September, is called "Do You Know," which is also the name of a song she co-wrote with Dolly Parton. Dolly’s on that track, as well. Right now, Jessica’s got a hit single on country radio called "Come On Over," which could cross over once the video debuts on her Web site in a few days.

But Simpson still has her share of problems with the tabloids. Dating football star Tony Romo hasn’t been easy (after her infamous marriage to pop star Nick Lachey). Case in point: Recently, an Us Weekly reporter actually wrote a letter to Romo’s father to see if she could ignite a war between the Simpsons and the Romos. I’ve seen the letter. It’s a hoot.

The reporter, whose name I will leave out of this, wrote to Mr. Romo: "I think it’s important for you to be aware — and maybe you already are — of how much Jessica Simpson’s side is controlling the media right now. … I think it’s important for the public to hear the other side of the truth, and undoubtedly there’s nobody who can provide that information better than you, Tony’s father. Us Weekly would be honored to provide an outlet for you to share your account of the situation. We could speak on or off the record — it’s completely up to you."

Account of what situation? That was my first question. That they’re dating? "Other side of the truth?" Is this really how the tabs operate? What truth? Again, that they’re dating?

Luckily, Mr. Romo didn’t take the bait. Jessica is still dating Tony. But the Us Weekly letter could make for a great country song.

Looks like Dallas Cowboys star Tony Romo is a Jessica Simpson fan in more ways than one. At the American Century Championship Celebrity Golf Tournament in Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, where Romo played for charity, PEOPLE asked him for his top three iPod picks. Romo named Journey's "Don't Stop Believing," (which he serenaded Simpson with during a night out recently"] ), and Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child of Mine."         • Jessica Simpson Celebrates Birthday Early With Tony Romo
Jessica Simpson isn't avoiding her 28th birthday on Thursday – she's already started celebrating.

The singer – joined by close friends and family – indulged in her favorite cupcake flavor, red velvet, from Crumbs bakery.

For dinner, Jessica and on-again beau Tony Romo went to Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas, where they met up with her pregnant sister Ashlee and husband Pete Wentz.

At one point, Ashlee and Jessica got on stage to sing with The Copycats, a cover band that was playing. The band serenaded Jessica with "Happy Birthday."

Following dinner, Jessica and Romo hit Key Club in West Hollywood to see Steel Panther (formerly known as Metal Skool).

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback even tried his hand at singing the Guns n' Roses hit "Sweet Child O' Mine" to Jessica and the crowd.

In January, Romo belted out Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" to the singer.

"I don't know about wedding bells," Jessica said last month of her relationship with Romo. "But I'm still with him, so that's a good sign."

"A friend of mine had drinks with Jessica amd Tony in Watersound a few nights ago and I saw them tonight with my own eyes at Bud and Alley's...Jessica and Tony (and a group of about 6-8 friends- I think Tony's brother was there) were upstairs at Bud and Alley's for several hours. They sat facing the crowd at the gulf front table by itself in the corner (the furthest one to the East)...

They had their table roped off with a bodyguard standing in front of it and there was a Bud and Alley's employee in the vicinity requesting that folks who stopped/gawked for too long keep moving...

She is really little and looked like herself- cute gal. He wore a ball cap and wouldn't have stood out if you didn't know it was him...

They looked like they were having fun. I imagine they were aware that everyone was trying to see them and they rarely if ever looked over as to avoid eye contact...

The place was mobbed with 20 and 30 somethings and most seemed really excited that they were there and everywhere you walked you'd hear people talking about it and see people texting about it...

My wife's younger single cousin stayed until close and said they were still there after he left...

Admittedly, I couldn't help but stare at her everytime I was on that side of the bar. I felt guilty for it and I couldn't help but think that I would never want to be famous..."

Perhaps bread sticks soothe nerves?

Jessica Simpson, 27, met beau Tony Romo's parents on June 27, when all of them had dinner at an Olive Garden in Janesville, Wisc.

Romo, 28, who grew up in nearby Burlington, was home to play in a golf tournament.

But making a reservation at the Olive Garden surprised even the restaurant’s general manager. "We thought it was a big joke," said Doug Belfanz. "Jessica Simpson's not going to the Olive Garden in Janesville, Wisconsin!"

Yep, actually, she did. Simpson, wearing a casual blouse and blue jeans, walked in holding hands with Romo, who wore a T-shirt and baseball cap.

Simpson had wine with her three-cheese ziti, but seemed more interested in Romo.

"She scooted up next to him during the meal," says Belfanz. "They were acting like a couple."

After dinner, they posed for a photo with the staff and signed autographs. Sneaking out through the kitchen, Simpson complimented the chefs on the meal.

"They were laughing," Belfanz says. "It was just a big family being out."

        • Jessica Simpson has dinner with Tony Romo and his parents
Jessica Simpson had dinner with Tony Romo and his parents at Olive Garden in Janesville, Wisc. on Friday, June 27, while Tony, who grew up in nearby Burlington, was in his home town for a golf tournament.

The general manager of the restaurant, Doug Belfanz, told People that he was incredulous when the reservation was made for the couple.

"We thought it was a big joke," Doug says. "Jessica Simpson's not going to the Olive Garden in Janesville, Wisconsin!"

Simpson, who nibbled at three-cheese ziti and sipped some wine, appeared more interested in Romo than the fare served by the Italian restaurant.

"She scooted up next to him during the meal," says Belfanz. "They were acting like a couple."

She did complement the chefs though, while leaving through the kitchen, as well as pose with the staff and sign autographs.

Simpson, 27, who started dating Romo, 28, in November 2007, continues to be guarded about her relationship when speaking to the press. Appearing on The View Wednesday, June 25, to promote her debut country music album, Do You Know, she was asked if wedding bells were in the offing. "We've been together for … seven to almost eight months now. I don't really know about wedding bells … I still love him, and I'm still with him, so that's a good sign," she replied.

        • Tony Romo's healthy, happy with Jessica Simpson
No need to worry about Tony Romo withdrawing from that golf tourney in Wisconsin yesterday. He departed early so he could catch a plane and get back to Valley Ranch for informal workouts.

Romo was four shots off the lead entering Sunday, but he fell back after shooting a 74. Would he have bolted if he was in contention for the title? Reckon we'll never know for sure, but he's clearly more concerned about trying to win a Lombardi Trophy than whatever the winner of the Ray Fischer State Medal Play Championship gets.

Nevertheless, it says something about the dude's commitment to the Cowboys that he cuts short a weekend with his family and girlfriend to fly back to Dallas to throw to his receivers.

Oh, that's the other good news. Romo and Jessica Simpson appear to have gotten through a rough patch in their relationship. They were spotted in a Janesville, Wisc. restaurant Friday, per the town's newspaper.
