Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson ended their marriage eight years ago, but as far as Lachey is concerned, it may as well have been eight decades ago. On Tuesday, May 7, the 98 Degrees singer appeared with his bandmates on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, where he told host Andy Cohen that his relationship with his ex felt like a part of some distant era in history.

“It’s been years [since the last time I talked to Jessica]. Years,” he said, after Cohen asked about the Fashion Star mentor during a game of Plead the Fifth. “Honestly, probably six years…It was like another lifetime ago.”

(Indeed, both Lachey and Simpson have new lives and new families now. The former, 39, married Vanessa Minnillo in 2011 and welcomed son Camden in September 2012. Simpson, meanwhile, is engaged to Eric Johnson, with whom she has a 12-month-old daughter, Maxwell, and a son on the way.)

Asked whether he ever reminisces about his three-year marriage to the singer by watching episodes of Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, the MTV reality series that documented their relationship, Lachey laughed. “I have not,” he replied.

“As you can imagine, that’s not popular viewing in my house,” he continued. “We don’t sit around as a family and watch the old DVDs.”

The boy bander also dished a little on being free of his ex’s parents. “What is the best thing about no longer having Joe Simpson as a father-in-law?” Cohen asked.

“Can I answer this one?” Lachey’s brother Drew piped in. “Everything!”

Simpson’s ex-husband laughed, then added: “The best thing about not having Joe Simpson as a father-in-law [is]…I don’t have to play grab-ass under the table on Easter Sunday.”

That was rude of Nick… I mean it’s in the past, why bring it up? To promote new cd or tour?

So sad that Nick still needs to be relevant and need the Jessica
& Simpson name so people would bother talking to him. He just showed
Jessica no respect and no respect for himself with a comment like
that. If most of you think Vanessa is
better then Jessica do yourself a favor and get a reality check. Nick has always been a bit “Shifty”..ugh…just lost ALL respect after watching the video of him saying that…it was A HUGE joke to him and his FLOP boy band members..Last time i checked Jessica Simpson is running a BILLION dollar company while nick is where??.. oh that’s right he making a lullaby album that no one bought….and didn’t Jewel do it first……so nick really needs to look in the mirror hes far from ANYTHING better.

I see why Jessica left him. He and his short brother have no respect. Jessica has never said anything bad about him or his family. He won’t have to worry about me ever going to anything of his. He has no class whatsoever. I am sure by him taking classes, he could come up with a better way of saying things and have more class than that. He still needs Jessica to stay relevant, I see.

he was asked inan interview about the tour and didn’t shy away from answering the question.
usually when a couple without children divorces they stop speaking unless their close to eachothers families. for example if Claire Newman & Kurt Sutherlund split it would likely stay amicable because he is a doting son in law to her mom Joanne Woodward

I agree! If he doesn’t mention Jessica’s name nobody listens to what he has to say, how low =(

i’m not condoning what he said, but he was asked about his relationship with jessica, that’s why it was brought up. it’s not as if he just jumped right into talking about it out of nowhere. that being said, idk why drew found it necessary to jump in with his rude two cents about joe simpson. i don’t really like joe simpson myself, but no one asked drew about the man.
