First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden met with Colorado military families on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Coors Field in Denver. Joining the pair was singer Jessica Simpson, who performed for the families. The three were promoting a new initiative to support military families. There also was a special viewing on the jumbo screen of the Rockies’ game against the New York Mets.
TheInsider.com was there as Jessica Simpson appeared with First Lady Michelle Obama at an event for military families and revealed that she just started to consider possible wedding dates two days ago.
The singer — who performed an emotional rendition of “God Bless America” for about 250 military families at Coors Field in Denver — said she is still trying to nail down a date for her wedding to her fiancé, former NFL football player Eric Johnson.
“I am planning a wedding, I mean I’m starting to. I hadn’t started until two days ago, I was like ‘okay, I’m going to jumble around three dates before the end of the year and see what fits for everybody in my life. So we’ll see what happens, but I know that I’ll definitely be married by the end of the year,” Simpson said.
First Lady Obama thanked Simpson for attending the event, in which the children of military service members were given the chance to interact with her and the singer and also watch a major league baseball game on jumbo screens and take part in games and activities at the stadium where the Colorado Rockies play.
Vice President Joe Biden’s wife Jill also attended to promote a White House initiative aimed at encouraging all Americans to support military families. For more information and to get involved with the Joining Forces initiative, click here.
“I am very honored and very blessed to have been asked by Mrs. Obama herself to come here and to help launch this initiative, which I believe in so much. So I’m so glad that I was one of the people she chose to stand in support for this,” Simpson said.

So amazing to hear Jessica sing! We want to hear her beautiful voice more!
Jessica Simpson sang “God Bless America” joined by First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, last night at Denver’s Coors Field before a Rockies vs. Mets game held to entertain military families. The singer was apparently handpicked by the first lady for the show, despite any political differences — Jessica was well known as a favorite of former president George Bush. The event was also a chance for Michelle and Jill to kick off their new Joining Forces initiative, which aspires to help soldiers and their loved ones deal with long separations. It was a humbling honor for the star. Jessica Simpson tweeted, “It’s such an honor to join First Lady Michelle Obama as she kicks off her new initiative in support of our military & their families.”

Following that event, Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden will join Martha Stewart and pregnant women whose husbands are in the military when they visit Operation Shower, a non-profit that hosts baby showers for expecting military families. In the afternoon, Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden visit service members and families at a support center in San Antonio, Texas before an evening trip to Coors Field in Denver where they will join military families from across Colorado for a special viewing of a Rockies game.
