Jessica Simpson may not know the difference between chicken and tuna, but she can distinguish what’s in style and what’s not.
And it’s earning her A LOT of money.
The pop singer’s fashion empire raked in $750 million dollars last year, and it’s expected to push to a jaw-dropping $1 billion this year as she expands her collection, according to an article in New York Magazine that will hit shelves on Feb. 21.
That means Simpson’s volume of sales would rival fashion titan Michael Kors.
“I never thought I’d be some fashion mogul,” said the 30-year-old, who will add a full ready-to-wear collection and a career separates line later this year.
Simpson also opened up about her love life and recent engagement to former NFL player Eric Johnson.
The duo met through mutual friends when he came to a party at Simpson’s house.
“Was it love at first sight? No,” said Simpson, whose love life has been tabloid fodder for years. “I don’t know if I believe in that. But it was definitely I could love this man. And maybe I already do.”
Johnson’s November proposal (with a ruby, diamond and gold Neil Lane sparkler) came just a week after her ex-husband Nick Lachey announced he was engaged Vanessa Minillo. But Simpson didn’t seem to care.
“It was a complete shock, a beautiful shock,” she told New York Magazine. “It felt great for somebody to be on his knee and I had to sit on that knee because I was so excited and overwhelmed. I couldn’t even stand. Knowing that I had his knee to sit on in that moment was very magical. The way I always wanted it to be.”
